One last message, from Governor Dave

Coming to YOUR 2nd District phone tonight!
Governor Dave Heineman for Lee Terry.
Hear (and see it) here:

Of course, there is a chance you won't receive it.
But then, if you've already heard it, you don't really need to now do you?

***

We have received a number of "click here to find your polling place" aps over the last few weeks.
This one seems to be not-bad, and it is distributed through Google.
That may or may not turn you on/off, and we stand by nothing here.
But it could help you to vote tomorrow, and if so, rock on:

We recently received info about a book by a local (Omaha) author about -- a Nebraska U.S. Senate campaign!

Here is the release about The Nostalgist.

Mark Kratina, an Omaha attorney, has published his first novel, The Nostalgist. The story centers around Baron Tapley, a young Omaha attorney who suspends a burgeoning legal career to run as The Party's candidate for Nebraska's Senate seat against heavily-favored, two-time incumbent David Westfall. Dubbed the "citizen candidate," Baron's brand of plain, authentic talk and unbridled idealism strikes a chord with a public all too familiar with the powerlessness and pessimism of the times.
But Baron finds his ideals at odds with more than just the political establishment. While his crude, calculating opponent is missing in action on the campaign trail, Baron discovers that the world around him appears at a crossroads. With the economy worsening by the day, venerable American institutions are disappearing from the landscape: newspapers, public libraries, small towns, and the tightly-held promise of the American Dream.
"The story is really about how we've come to a crossroads of who we are as a country," Kratina said. "Many of the themes deal with how we're changing journalistically, politically, and how we feel about those changes. The Nostalgist is a snapshot of a handful of characters, all at various stages of their lives, and how they deal with that change.
"The idea of using a political campaign as a catalyst to explore deeper themes going on in the country was interesting to me. Particularly, the themes of generational disconnect and the paradign shift from newspapers to blogs and the overall explosion of technology in how we interact with one another."
As it is a Nebraska-specific story, many state landmarks appear throughout the story, including the Durham Museum, the State Fairgrounds, and various small towns. The Omaha World-Herald plays prominently in the tension between old media and new media.
"It is a story of its time. I was really looking to write something that captured the confusion of the times. Though the story has a political bent, I did not want to write a partisan narrative. The politics of the story are contemporary, but the words Republican and Democrat do not appear in the book.
"When you throw a main character who is a young, Generation Xer into a world shaped by Baby Boomers and give him touches of influence from members of the Greatest Generation, it made for an interesting project for me."
You can pick up a copy or just read some sample chapters of The Nostalgist at www.fedorahouse.com. The Nostalgist is also available in paperback and E-book formats on Amazon.com.

Now, we don't know Mark (and he doesn't know us). But we like to support local folks and this subject is, of course, in our bailiwick, so to speak.

In any case, Mark was kind enough to send us the first eight chapters and we will give you a review of them tomorrow.

Can't wait to get my Kindle for Christmas! There are so many books I want to read and have been putting off in hopes of a great present.

Thanks for the warning. Not that I'd answer the phone anyway. Besides, I've already voted. So if anybody shows up at my polling place and tries to vote under the name Daddy, Mac, you're too late.

My wife threw out the hint for a Christmas Kindle...this might be an interesting read for her.

Thanks for the heads up to leave my phone off.

A last minute check of NADC filings and see that Senator Lautenbaugh has pocketed $2500 from tobacco companies and is still lying that he has not taken any money from the tobacco companies this election. this in exactly what this election is about. Let's send the honest Republican to Lincoln. Instead of the same old sleasy politician

"Lee Terry votes against deficit spending..." And he voted against the Stimulus...but Heineman took the money without blinking an eye.

It will be interesting to see if Heineman has the pair necessary to get Nebraska through through a serious budget crunch...probably the worst in state history...the next FOUR years. My opinion...but I think we will be picking the "lesser of" tomorrow when it comes to selecting our Governor.

And the last check of the FEC Reports, still shows Tom White trying to buy the election with his millions that he has made suing the City and County taxpayers.

Shame on Tom White! I bet he pours another $25,000 into buying the 2nd CD before the end of this race.

PS: Any truth to the rumor that I heard in both Sarpy County and Douglas County that Tom White is juiced up for the Mayor's Seat? I wonder if he has talked to his good friend Brad Assford about that?

Heineman was not going to take the money until the Teachers Union bullied him into it. Boy, your selective memory is more than bad, it is frightening.

I seem to recall him stating publicly that this was just a band aid and that it will give a false sense of security. Now there will be that many more teachers with their 3 year tenure.

Whatever, if Nebraska hadn't taken it, it would have just been poured down that drain in California. At least this way, Nebraska Taxpayers got some of their own money back!

I agree that Tom White and Scott Lautenbaugh are comparable. Both lawyer/political hacks that are looking out more for their political careers than their consituents. I'm not voting for either. That will give them both more time to smoke cigars up at Cigaro's.

Anon 9:35 AKA Carl Lorenzen AKS "LOSER"

You and your ilk are almost funny. Too bad you won't get to tell you jokes in the chamber for at least 4 years.

Tom White can pour all the money he wants into the race, he is done. He only continues to tick off the voters with his hate mail.

Yes, that's exactly the attitude you take when the city of Omaha takes federal grant money.

As I remember it, Heineman used the first stimulus dollars to demand the local school boards give raises to teachers, then cut state aid back to previous levels in the special session, and threatened to gut it if they didn't support a repeal of health care reform.

White's Lies- you think White is bad, you should check out the LD 14 Race! Whitehead is out with robocalls saying she is the conservative in the race.

LIE LIE LIE

How is she going to balance the fact she has taken 10's of thousands of Education Union dollars and YET is going to KILL the Learning Community?

LIE LIE LIE

How is she going to balance her statement of SUPPORTING a boycott of Arizona YET she is the Conservative?

She needs to sign a public Pledge to end the Dream Act, and to Support Senator Janssen's immigration bill!

LIE LIE LIE

She is out with Tom White and Pelosi's agenda 100%

In today's Politico:

There is nearly uniform consensus among Democratic campaign professionals that the House is gone — the only question, it seems, is how many seats they will lose.

While few will say so on the record for fear of alienating party officials or depressing turnout, every one of nearly a dozen Democratic House consultants and political strategists surveyed expect a GOP majority to be elected Tuesday — the consensus was that Democrats would lose somewhere between 50 and 60 seats.

To "Tired of White's Lies" -

No I am not Carl. It seems like you/Scott seem to think you are entitled to the seat. Glad to see you are going to be a gracious winner (if indeed you win). We need more independents and Republicans to unite and take down career politicians like Scott Lautenbaugh. He is exactly what is wrong with the system. I see from his contribution that he couldn't even hire a Nebraska firm to send out his campaign mailers. Sent his money to Iowa. sheesh.

Hey Tom White. I hope you don't violate Federal Law and "forget" to file your most recent loan documents with the FEC within 48 hours. You do know that you can be disbarred for breaking Federal Law, don't you?

Tired of Karl said...

Anon 11:22 Karl you have to just accept it, you are not wanted by the district.

Oh and just how does a Nebraska State Senator qualify as a Career Politician? They are Term limited you schmuck.

Gee and you wonder why people can't stand you and your b.s.

LD 14 is refering to a push poll the teachers union/trial atty/Dem Party et al have been running since last week.

Obviously their results are not going well. When the poll started they only refered to Whitehead as "Combat Veteran", then they realized that wasn't storng enough so the started calling her "Conservative Candidate", yesterday they were even trying to call her "Ultra Conservative Candidate".

Voters are not buying any of it. They have seen how she thinks in her own words.

There is a reason her friends call her Nancy Pelosi and it ain't 'cause she is conservative.

Anonymous said...

How about the fact that Dave Heineman has taken more money from the Teachers Union this cycle than anyone? That is a fact!

He bows to them on stimulus and then cashes in.

WOW just heard a radio spot for Rogert. The voice was so old! I really think the spot is going to hurt him. Sounded like a voice from the crypt.

Of course there was another spot for Jim Smith in LD 14, the Governor. Sounded a whole lot different, and much much better.

~30 hrs from now and we will start getting the numbers. ~48 hrs and it's all over but the crying.

Come on all R's get out there and VOTE!!!!!!!!

Don't forget to vote all the way down the Ticket.

where are the Meister-White voters?

give me the Heineman-Terry voters anyday!

This is from today's politico-- Charlie Cook report--the final before tomorrow's vote:

“Less than 24 hours before polls open, the race for the House has taken on a parliamentary feel,” read the Cook Political Report’s Monday pre-election update. “Democrats are headed for losses of 50 to 60 seats or possibly more, primarily because these races have become highly nationalized affairs in which voters' desire to send President Obama and congressional Democrats a message has trumped local and personal concerns.”

Anonymous said...

That's exactly what has happened in NE2 this cycle.

White wanted to desperately run away from Obama and the Pelosi record--but he couldn't becuase he endorsed the $800 billion stimulus plan and the $1.2 trillion takeover of healthcare.

2 trillion tom.

Doubt there would be many members of a Mesiter-White Club.

Good GOTV rally tonight--at DCRP--Westwood Plaza, 7 p.m.

Heineman-Terry voters will be there!!!!

Anonymous said...

Is there a rally tonight for the Meister-White voter? lol

Anonymous said...

I thought the Meister White rally was being held at Chuck E Cheese.

It's being said that there may well be 4 Democrats who won't be in Lincoln come January.

Rogert, Conrad, Wallman, and a super secret one in Omaha!

Oh and as Giese is gone...... only 11 registered D's plus Ashford! A dirty dozen.

It will be interesting to watch.

So Lee Terry had another 48 hour report, but nothing from Tom White. I certainly hope he isn't circumventing the law. The public has a right to know how much he intends to spend to by himself a congressional seat.

Tom, you know you gave your campaign more cash last week. You better report it so the people know. You know, in the name of transparency and all.

Not either! But maybe for a right leaning blog on election eve.
