DaveTV: Heineman on the air

Governor Dave is up with his first ad of the 2010 campaign. Leavenworth Street swung a copy and you can see it here:

Nice straightforward piece.

And we understand that the Heineman camp has a few bucks to keep this and other spots rolling.

His opponent, maybe not so much.

***

We noted the other day that the Democrat Gub candidate, Mike Meister has decided that the way to get elected is to try the old, “Those SOBs from Eastern Nebraska are trying to steal from you!” line, while in the panhandle. In short:
I grew up in the Panhandle, I’m a Scottsbluff native, I understand our issues probably better than most, and we have an opportunity here in the Panhandle to elect a person who understands our issues, whose willing to fight for us, who willing to not let the eastern politicians take advantage of us.
That’s a hell of a way to campaign as a statewide candidate, Mr. Meister.

So to be completely childish, we would just like to point out the importance of a candidate controlling the media that is delivered. In this case, Gub candidate Meister via the Scottsbluff Star Herald: (click photo to enlarge)

***

And as we were reading a translated Nebraska political story, we came across this one as well, for your Thursday night football related enjoyment.
Former football manager Lou Holtz is propelling support — with votes and with income — for Republicans using for Congress.
In a fundraising e-mail sent Tuesday on interest of a National Republican Congressional Committee, Holtz pronounced GOP leaders in a House are good positioned to “fire Nancy Pelosi” in Nov though “they can’t find a finish section but your support.” The message, filled with football references, asked supporters to give money to assistance Republicans constraint a infancy on Nov. 2.
“We are late into a fourth entertain of a midterm elections and a NRCC needs your evident assistance to expostulate a Republican Party to victory,” a former Notre Dame manager said.
Um...and Go Huskers!

***UPDATE***

And see the new spot by Congressman Adrian Smith, which we also got our mits on:

Good summary piece.

Keep up the good work Adrian!

Did Heineman spend his money from the foreign company that wants to ruin our water and make Nebraska a waste land?

I like the ad, especially the bit about balancing the budget without raising taxes. The contrast with Suttle is striking, especially as he robs other towns' citizens to balance his budget.

How is Heineman going to balance teh budget this year? He won't have Obama and the Feds bailing him out. What a right wing tool Heineman is. All talk and no real solutions.

Well the dirty politics of the White volunteers have come into play...drove past two large Lee Terry signs today that had a D before Lee and a T at the end...one of the signs was on 132nd Street, south of Pacific in someone's yard. Good thing this isn't Texas, the homeowner could've shot them for trespassing.

I cannot stand Guvuhnuh (his phoentic)Dave's admin, but this is a good ad

Smith's ad was a yawner, but then I guess it doesn't have to be anything more than a "please remember that there's actually an election" ad.

The panhandle paper's panning of Meister's booger suggests the paper grasps this guy's elevator stops between floors. Yet Meister isn't the only Dem running who seems to be missing a few bricks.

In the search for Dems dumb enough to run for office this year, it appears the NDP has emptied the asylum.

That's what happens when you form a political party out of dopers who burned thier brains out in school and then couldn't recover due to their meager vegan diet.

851, the good news is that the homeowner knows how to shoot "real good" so when the sign get repaired, Tom White bullies, beware.

How come I don't see any Tom White signs? Didn't Democrat Joe Biden help him raise a bunch of money? What did Tom do with all his money? It surely didn't cost that much to buy the VP a tuna fish sandwich.

In 2008 hundrends of Obama signs were stolen. Where was the right wing out rage then?

Anonymous said...

Some baked college student leaving them in his mom's basement doesn't mean they were "stolen".

Democrats always trash yardsigns. They think they're doing Gaia's work.

Anonymous said...

GeosUser, check your facts. The firefighters support Lee Terry and have given him over $50,000 during his time in Congress.

Anonymous said...

While the Fire Union may support Lee Terry, the strong arm unions(aka, the bullies)all support Tom White.

If I were Lee Terry, I would take a fireman and police officer over a strong arm union bully any day.

Seriously, what has a union plumber or electrician done for you lately that a non union one couldn't have done cheaper, better and faster-and without the help of 2 or 3 other guys standing around staring at the problem?

Being anti union is like being anti America. More FAUX noise all star wrestling facts coming out every day. With the blather of GOP talk and lack of knowledge.

On January 9, 2010, the son-in-law of News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch and the husband of Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth, Matthew Freud, stated he and other members of the media mogul's family are "ashamed and sickened" by the right leaning tendencies of Fox News. WOW. So every one get this straight. FOX news is a right wing news station. They don't care if they tell the truth. They like to say what their audience likes to hear. That is not truth that is propaganda. Most democrats don't care what Jane Kleeb thinks either.

Yeah, watching the Unions drive up the cost of making a product until the end user takes their product to a new factory in china or india is absolutely as American as baseball and apple pie.

What really sucks, is that those companies use the American manufacturing to do all the development, but then when it comes time for them to start making money producing the product, the sales orders begin shrinking until they just disappear all together.

So in summation, Thanks a friggin' ton union leaders for forcing jobs overseas.

And don't even get me started on the EPA and Cap and Trade. The manufacturing sector will absolutely shutter its doors by the time this Dem Congress finishes with them!

ANON 2:36 Your a complete idiot. With out unions here there would be no middle class in America. There would be no safety regulations in any work station . You need to read a bit more and listen a lot less to talk radio. Corporations hate unions. The rich hate unions. Why? Because they expect those people to treat people like people. Not just some underpayed working stiff. Who they forget all about once he can't help the large corporation any more. In the dicatorships through out the world one of the first things that are out lawed are unions. Pull your head out and LEARN about what unions really are.

Nordello said...

The budget will be balanced without raising taxes by making government smaller. There is an effort underway,LR 542, to look at the statutes governing all agencies. The committee's are charged with presenting suggestions for either eliminating statutes, or changing them.

I suspect when it's all said and done the Nebraska Government will be smaller, take fewer actions, and thereby cost less.

People who have been used to getting some services from the state will no longer get those services. Those state employee's who provided said services will be unemployed. Many offices will run even leaner than they do now as empty positions will not be filled.

Bottom line is the Government costs less when they provide less. Fairly simple concept. It isn't the State's responsibility to be all things to all people. Some people will have to turn to charity, or get jobs, or look to family.

You just can't keep getting things at no cost to you, when others bear the burden. Again not complicated.

Now go ahead and start the for the children, elderly, ets...... whine.

Anonymous said...

Anon 246, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Nordello. It would be ok to cut the government, if and I mean a big if. If republicans would not want to cut those who are helpless. Those who can't help them selfs. Those who need a helping hand once in a while. There are a lot of cuts that could be made. But republicans only want to do the cuts that hurt people who can't help themselfs. Nothing wrong with cuts when they are needed. But not the type of cuts that republicans like to do. That is not whining that is protecting. Or maybe just a bit what it says in the New Testament. Try reading it some time. It will blow your right wing ,only the rich are good people out of the water theory up.

Anonymous said...

Nordello your ideas are primitive and way out of wack. Only super right wing tea baggers like your self belive in super small government. Why don't you study those type governments today. Most of them are in Africa. Really successful countries. (NOT) I know Atlas Shrugged taught you all you know. But remember it is fiction.

I see from the NADC that soon to be former Senator Lautenbugh took a big pile of cash from the Tobacco Industry again. I'm guessing to make sure that the no one gets the wild idea to raise the cigarette tax. And the worst part, he then turns around and hires companies from outside NE to run his campaign. C'mon man. He really does think his constituents are bunch of hicks and dofuses.

The poor republicans. They loose again. A federal judge ruled against them on the legality of the new health care law. Poor , poor republicans. You just can't win. You just don't understand the constitution. Maybe if you read it you might know what it really says. Just a little hint. Glenn Beck never read it either.

Anonymous said...

hahahaha, raise the tobacco tax? I suppose you think that would balance all the spending? Hello, Stupid, the oppressive tobacco taxes have already stopped most of the puffers in this state. Raising the tobacco tax even more will have a negative affect on revenue from the sale of cigarettes.

It would be a plus for those of us that worry about our friends and family that are still puffing away, but it won't get you where you want to be.

QUIT THE DAMN SPENDING. Nothing is sacred, everything has across the board cuts-deal with it.

Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh said...

To "Al T."--

Sometimes the facts have to intrude.

I accepted no funds from tobacco this year-- though I see nothing wrong with doing so. I did receive some last year, yet they amount to a very small portion of what I have raised for this race.

My campaign consultant lives in Gretna, which I believe is still in this state.

I do oppose raising taxes on cigarettes (and everything else, really), but that is unrelated to the contributions of last year. That's just me.

I hope that clears things up.

I work with Union and non-Union electricians all the time. There is a huge education level gap between the 2. The non-Union labor might be cheaper, but you get what you pay for. I'v had several incidents where I've gotten non-union electricians thrown off the job because they didn't meet specifications or standards.

Give me a Union electrician that has a better understanding of the situation and what you are asking for.

The bid for the job might be cheaper, but the non-union electricians usually utilize substandard equipment and wire.

I am one of the few republicans who will meet you half way on the union argument. I believe unions for workers such as electricians are good becuase they do provide training and continuing education. I don't beleive unions are needed for groups such as firefighters, police officers, state workers (of which I am one...my position is an Admin Ass. job and I have a college degree--I don't need or want the union, let me prove myself)

But, I do think unions are good for jobs in trade industries.

They send me where they go to get their supplies regularly-thus saving me even more money. I've been to United Electric and Supply on a number of occasions.

They have also both told me not to buy at the "big box" shops.

Seriously, you really want to call non union workmanship substandard? You must be a Democrat.

To Senator Lautenbaugh -

Hate to confuse you with facts but a check of NADC website shows that you were telling a bold face lie in your post last night. Your statement at 6:13 PM was that

"I accepted no funds from tobacco this year."

That is just not true!! On May 3, 2010 (that's this year), you accepted $2000 from Philip Morris Tobacco and on June 15, 2010 you took $500 from RJ Reynolds Tobacco. What say you?

Just another slick lawyer/politician trying to fool the voters. Did you hope no one would check?

And you did pay a Gretna indidividaul $3200 as a "consultant" But also paid $361to a St. Paul (that's in Minnesota) firm for polling and annoying robo-calls and $4600 to Victory Enterprises from Davenport (that's in Iowa) for mailings and postings. You couldn't find a Nebraska company to make calls and send mailings?

And yes you did clear something up -that you will play fast and loose with the truth in order to get elected. Better check with your Gretna consultant as to how you are going to clean up this mess.

If you want to see how these guys support the Nebraska or Omaha economies, check out Schedule D of Jon Bruning's October 4th Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure statement! Holy Smokes. So much for the theory of "economic development" when these brains drain our pockets with empty promises of being conservative when their actions speak louder than words.

Perhaps we should find a tax or fee for poltical wannabees with deep pockets that are unloaded elsewhere.

Likewise, so much for that old "I'm conservative" mantra holding true if that's what you are spending when running unopposed. Imagine the amount of money that he'll spend once he is running for the Senate or Governor which it looks to be the case already.

He just couldn't find one person in the entire state of Nebraska to do his consulting and media buys or their production? Hard to believe. No place like Nebraska? What would Jonny's grandma say?

LaughtenBOUGHT said...

Always good to see a politician caught in a lie. Unfortunately Scott will no doubt wiggle off the hook here, since lower and middle class Nebraskans seem determined to vote against their own interests (again).

RWP said...

So here's an interesting angle...

You're running for office against an incumbent Congressman. You slip a few thousand bucks into the pocket of a DC gossip columnist. The columnist writes a small piece about your opponent boozing it up an unnamed female lobbyist (blonde of course). No name, no location, no date, so it's impossible to refute.

Then you run negative political ads referencing the 'story' you yourself planted.

It's almost foolproof, as long as you are totally without a conscience.

MacDaddy said...

"lower and middle class Nebraskans seem determined to vote against their own interests (again)."

So, LaughtenBOUGHT, you are advocating that people should vote selfishly? You Lefties are making my head spin! "Americans are too selfish." "I am going to be a servant to Obama." But now you want us to vote for our own selfish interests?

I will say it is nice to know that you think I am selfless and generous. Thank you for noticing.

Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh said...

To Al T and "LautenBought"--

I'm not sure why I'm bothering, but here goes:

The contributions you are referring to were in 2009-- they continue to be listed this year as part of the same election cycle. While Phillip Morris did send me $2000 this year-- I returned it. You simply aren't reading the reports correctly.

I can't make it any more plain.

Papio Vet said...

Speaking of BOUGHT...anyone check out Teresa Whitehead? Over 40% of her contributions come from Big Labor or Liberal special interests.

She is proud of being endorsed by the police and fire unions. Yeah, the same police and fire unions that are killing Omaha's budget, forcing residents in her district to pay a restuarant tax when the eat in Omaha and an unemployment tax if they work in Omaha.

Anonymous said...

Looks like untra liberal, Obama supporter Warren Buffett gave Whitehead a grand too.

How does she think she can "eliminate" the wheel tax when her supporters need it to pay for their sweet retirements?

To the chubby Marlboro Man said...

To Scott -

I wish links were allowed here. I just checked out Al T.'s claimas. Both Philip Morris and RJ reynolds have in this years report that the contributions were made in 2010. There seems to be no record of you ever returning either one of the checks. Better get that check in the mail so that it appears on the next report. Which of course is conveniently after the election. My guess is we will never see any proof that the check was returned. I guess I should commend you that you have decided not to take any tobacco money this year. You probably worked a deal to get the check after January 1.

I sure hope the District elects the up front honest Republican over a sleazy political hack. I will let the voters decide who is who.

Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh said...

Last time--

My report reflects accurately what contributions I accepted. I cannot make the entities update their reports to show returned contributions, uncashed checks, and the like. Sometimes they just never do, as I understand it. While it may make good fodder for a few brave, anonymous, name-calling posters on here, it is beyond my control.

Anonymous said...

Tom White gave Theresa Whitehead a big check too.

Grundle King said...

Al T., while you're complaining about Scott spending money out of state on annoying robo-calls, make sure you throw in a few complaints Amanda McGill, too, as she did the exact...same...thing in her campaign a few years ago. Hers were EXTREMELY annoying, because once you answered, you'd get dead air. After multiple calls from the same number, I finally let it go to voicemail, and only then did I discover who was responsible.

Being the gracious voter that I am, I did not demand reimbursement for all the cellular minutes I used answering her dead-air robocalls. I did, however, make sure to vote against her.

Anonymous said...

I took the time to read the NADC report filed recently by Sen. Lautenbaugh, and the three reports filed before than...all four have the contributions by the two before mentioned tobacco companies listed in Column B "Total Contributions Listed Previously in this Election period" of Schedule B. There are no dates next to the donations on any of these reports, meaning it was prior.
So, clearly Sen. Lautenbaugh is telling the truth, and a poster here does not know how to read NADC reports.

Anonymous said...

Just to clear things up for folks. Go to the Phillip Morris/Altria and Reynolds American reports to find the dates of the contributions. Can't give you the links but it is all there in black and white. So clearly the good Senator is not telling the truth. And the NADC does indicate which checks have been returned with a minus sign once they have been returned. You can see that in their reports as well. Nice try Senator.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:01...You are stating then that the Senator filed a false report? If you read his last four reports, none of them list the contributions you speak of. The only contributions listed are listed in Column B...go red it in black and white.

Anonymous said...

To anon 4:24. No never claimed that Senator Lautenbaugh filed a false report. The reports by the tobacco companies that thye contrbitued $2500 to his campaign this spring are correct. And Scott have them listed on his report as well. That is perfectly allowable and accurately reported. The probelm is that Scott said he hadn't accepted money from any tobacco company this year - which clearly is not the case. Lying to voters is not illegal - just pretty sleazy. Hope that finally clears that up.
