Erin Go Blaugh

As per tradition (sort of) here on Leavenworth Street, see a few entrants in last Saturday's Saint Patrick's Day Parade in O'Maha.

First, Rob Butler for School Board. (Yeah, that's right! We cover ALL the races here on L. St!)

Then Representative Lee Terry for Congress.

And finally, State Senator Tom White for Congress.

There may have been others there, but frankly they didn't send us any pics.  Thanks to the camps who did!

We heard a rumor of late (that will likely be confirmed or denied in the comments section) that a resident of Hastings, Nebraska will be running to be the new Chair-person of the Nebraska Democrats.

None other than Jane Fleming Kleeb.

Some of you may know that Mrs. Kleeb -- she of the Scott Kleebs and former employee of the SEIU offshoot "Change that Works", that recently closed shop in Nebraska -- is also running for School Board in Hastings (no word on what her St. Paddy's Day float looked like).

On the one hand she's good for the Dems: (relatively) young and energetic; a good speaker; has organized efforts in the past.

Then again, she has only lived in the state for, what, three years? Not exactly a long time to have been in state to jump to be the head of all the Dems. She seems like more of the Executive Director type, than Chair. But maybe that involves too much work. Who knows.

And then there is the question of her politics. Jane isn't exactly in the mold of a Ben Nelson "conservative Democrat". To say that she is a Beltway Liberal would be credit to all of her talking head appearances on MSNBC and FOX. Would she be the face of the party in Nebraska?

Well hey, beats us. Maybe this is just a trial balloon anyway. But one would think the Dems are looking for something different.

Finally, apropos of nothing, we came across this item on eBay:

It's a Key to the City of Omaha (unlocking the city gates) from former Mayor Hal Daub to someone...in England?

Anywho, in can be yours for a starting bid of two quid. (Shipping Royal Mail 2nd Class Standard.) Bidding closes March 20th!

Ditto--will there be more people on the NNN call than post on NNN.
Or will Kyle be talking to just Samp?

And you get to lose elections when you don't listen to your constituents. But if you want to keep living in the '60's, feel free.

Hey Bud,

I believe it is the Dems Senior member in the senate who was a leader of the Ku Klux Klan and said

Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.

Why don't you drum Robert Byrd out of your party? Instead you've let hime be a national leader of it for 60 years. So don't tell us about keeping racists in our party.

Just to see how mad everybody is almost makes passing this bill worth it. When the sun rises tomorrow (and yes it will) America will be better off than it was the previous day.
And you won't retake the house or senate, don't be idiots. You will gain seats but not a majority.

Brian, dismissing business prosperity as nothing more than "corporate greed" reveals a lot about you and your attitudes. What you -- and so many other Democrats -- need to understand (but fail to) is that corporate prosperity is the goose that lays the golden egg.

Businesses employ people. When businesses are successful, they employ more people and when they're not successful, they employ fewer people. Having a condition of low unemployment depends on businesses being profitable -- "corporate greed" as you call it.

You Democrats treat the treasury as though it's your own private slush fund from which you can dole out goodies to your selected constituency in order to preserve your power base. And you do this without regard to the cost or concern for who's going to pay for it and how. You act like you can always just raise taxes on the rich for this and soak the rich for that (afterall, they're just a bunch of greedy bastards, right?).

But what you're doing is killing the goose that lays the golden egg.

Fortunately for you, the mainstream media act like the PR dept of the Democratic party and they'll make sure to help you blame the goose's demise on lack of government regulation rather than too much.

Nathan--your comment might have more punch if you had a track record of serious campaign management.

Everyone knows you don't.

STOP JANE, I think considering the Omaha Public School board is made up of 12 people who are RINO'S and or are professed democrats who are pro-choice, tax and spend liberals , Jane thinks it must be true for all school districts in Nebraska.

For anybody *REALLY* curious, I purchased the Key. Paid via PayPal and the item is en route across the ocean. Pictures to follow.

Anon 3:39,
If you do have campaign experience please tell us and wow us with your superior knowledge, intellect and good looks! I humbly bow down to you and grovel at your feet oh mighty and superior one!

And you guys still wont retake the house or senate. In fact when the repubs fight against the financial reform bill it will bite you guys in the ass. Being known as the party defending wall street banks ain't gonna win you any favors, not even from the tea bagging idiots. Good luck with that strategy though.

Nathan--it's pretty simple--just tell us here a significant campaign that you have managed. Let's hear it--who was the candidate, what office, what was the budget you oversaw, how many staff and how did it end up.

Just name the race...and please let it be something more than an NRD contest.

Nathan said...

No campaign management experience, how about you? Is this Boomer/Ink? And I dont need that experience to know you wont retake both houses. But I guess we'll see sometime in November.

This article generated 214 comments--I wonder if that is the most ever on LS. Spirited discussions.

I think NNN has had something like 8 comments total in the articles Kyle posted this past week.

Nathan--thanks for being honest.

I hear the Dem candidate for Lt. Gov. is looking for a campaign manager right now--why don't you place a call?

Nathan said...

Ink/Politicalguy, No thanks, I've got to much other stuff on my plate right now. How much experience do you have? We'll see who is right in November but if your game I'm willing to make a small wager with you, how about the loser buys the winner a 6 pack.
