See it here:
This spot, by Murphy Putnam out of Alexandria, Virginia, of course is misleading.
The immigration bill that is referenced, that may have done all sorts of "reforming of immigration", also provided a giant amnesty for illegal aliens. And Hal Daub voted against amnesty for illegal aliens.
And you should note that when asked, Jim Suttle said that as far as amnesty for illegal aliens goes, "I really have an open mind on that whole issue."
Of course Hal Daub has stated his position against amnesty over and over, but Suttle thinks the vote is a big "Gotcha!" on Daub. (And of course we already pointed out that Suttle's comparisons to Daub on the tax issues are not apples to apples in any case.)
But hey, Murphy Putnam, ya know you, eh, left the "Starsky & Hutch" chase-scene music going while you're talking about Suttle. So when you get right down to it, when people hear the "wocka-wocka-wocka" music, they're thinking Jim Suttle in a pair of bell-bottoms. (Once again, not a visual we are happy about.)
And what is it you have against aerobics? A glance at the Prairie Life group schedule says that the "Step Jam" class is at 8:00 AM on Saturdays...

From the OWH: "Suttle declined to say Monday whether he would support a tax increase to address the city’s budget shortfall."
Suttle not giving specifics about his plans if elected??? Shocker!
Here, we will lay it out for you: All Omahans who want higher property taxes should vote Jim Suttle next week. There.

Still can't beat Suttle in his own words.
Speaking of in his own words, how about Jon Blumenthal being caught in a few bold faced lies? Ouch.
Great you tube if you look up Stothert Blumenthal Part 6.
I miss you Hal, old friend. You've got my vote!
Wake up, people!

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! lol
The weird harold is endorsing a dedicated Marxist for District 2, instead of that shining example of racial harmony Frank Brown???
OWH has to know its endorsement is the kiss of death in Ward 2.
The Omaha World Herald endorses Chip Maxwell. They state "We point to Chip Maxwell as particularly qualified, given the financial crunch weighing on city government: In his past service as a Douglas County Board member and state senator, Maxwell has demonstrated his proven ability and dedication to tackle tough budget and tax challenges. That is a particularly valuable quality, and the City Council would benefit highly from it. Maxwell has shown he can delve into the detailed work expected of a conscientious officeholder. He is articulate and has a quick mind. Omahans need have no hesitation about Maxwell's ability to apply his impressive intellectual energy and practical-mindedness to tackle important issues." Jerram will start slinging mud any minute as he sees his campaign losing ground by the minute. Look for members of the fire union to start using their old campaign dirty tricks on Jerram's behalf.
As purveyors of politics you should know by now, the only time that the OWH's endorsement matters is when it defies expectations. Even then, it only matters to political elites and not voters.
Their endorsement of David Kramer in 2006 was an extreme vote-of-no-confidence in the Republican field for Senate.
In a close race, they will always go with the more conservative candidate (See Dist. 3). In a sure blowout, they will always go with the candidate who is certain to win (See Dist. 1, 4, 5, 6, and 7). And in a race between what they deem as the lesser of two evils, I imagine they flip a coin (See Dist. 2).
I can't wait to see Jon Blumenthal's resturant tax idea!
Jon you are my hero. Finally, a supposed Republican not afraid to say he'd raise taxes in these troubled times.
OK Councilman Kooky Pants...here is why we would want to go back to Hal Daub:
1) Qwest Center (with a vote of the people) including: Olympic Swim Trials, NCAA Regional Basketball Site, NCAA Women's Volleyball Final Four, Creighton Basketball, UNO Hockey, headliner concerts, et cetera, et cetera.
2) AAA bond rating
3) West Dodge Freeway
4) Riverfront Tower
5) Reduction in violent crime and homicides
6) Police/Fire Training Center
7) Gallup Organization
8) Net Property tax reductions
9) Sun Dawgs
10) Helicopters
11) Riverfront (removal of Aaron Ferer & Sons, ASARCO, CITY Dock and RJ Brown's fishing hole)
12) North Omaha Business Park
13) Stockyards Business Park
14) FNBO Tower
15) He's a veteran
16 Jobs, jobs, jobs
17) His wife Mary
Are those good reasons to go back?
HAL YES!
Now I just have to say that there must not be any connection whatsoever to the push poll calls asking about crappy music from the disco era and the present ad from Jim Suttle.
No it is merely coincidental and complete and utter irony that the two struck a similar cord.
Not Dave Letterman? Exactly - cuz you're actually Hal Daub. And if you're not really Hal, then he's lucky to have idiots like you who'll believe whatever he says. Anyone who votes for Daub deserves four years of bitching and moaning about Jim Suttle and the DEMOCRATS! haha
An OWH endorsement should not necessarily be held against a candidate. However, the NRL endorsement should be.
Jim Suttle doesn't have an "open mind" on any subject...it's just empty and every time he speaks, he proves it.
The ad is such a lie. Suttle is stooping so low on such an outlandish claim.
The Rodino and Mazzoli bills included amnesty in their so-called immigration reform bills.
Those 2 bills were so bad, that Hal voted against them. No matter how many penalties would be levied against business, fact is those bills have allowed the problem of illegal immigration to go unchecked and to the point of it being totally out of control.
What is Jim Suttle's response to illegal immigration? Who cares. It's not my problem he says. Its the feds problem.
What a moron.
Before you crazy left wing kooks go off on me and call me a bigot, etc. I'm a 3rd Generation American, whose grandparents came to this country the right way and I thank God everyday they made that decision and that my grandfather gave his life for his new country by joining the Army and dying after Vietnam due to Agent Orange. What a country!
When Hal Daub gets elected, you won't see bitching and moaning about the Democrats. You will see action and movement towards an IT mecca, rivaling Austin, Des Moines and Kansas City.
Wait and see!
Did I just read something about Suttle's new ad attacking Daub and read something about Murphy Putnam out of West Virginia???
Well, isn't that odd, since I read on Suttle's homepage, that he is from West Virginia.
So, what should one think about that? Gee, what a coincidence !
(Uh, Murphy Putnam is the name of the ad agency in Alexandria, Virginia -- a suburb of DC.)
Oh, lol, thanks Sweeper !
I guarantee if Hal Daub is elected fighting will begin again at City Hall. Another Recall attempt will be made. Name calling, petty fights, my way or the high way Daub will think he's the freakin' dictator of Omaha again.
Daub will immediately seek revenge against the Firefighters and north Omaha.
The police will be unleashed.
Hal Daub as Mayor - Boo! for Omaha.
Yeah, Daub is running on tough against immigration.
Daub was the chief campaign person for John McCain in Nebraska.
That's John McCain, the man who co-sponsored the Ted Kennedy "Amnesty" bill.
Hypocrite Hal is at it again.
So what's the Omaha World Herald's beef with Daub....The World Herald is strangely silent and late on Suttle's immigration gaffe. Did I miss something Dave, Robyn and Maggie???
So if your developing land in Omaha which firm or attorney do you not use after this election?
Sweeper:
I wonder how many people spent the hour watching the debate on the internet or Cox. I watched it twice and still couldn't count how many times Suttle asked for a rebuttal.
And, was extremely surprized how Rebuttal/Suttle kept interrupting the people (OWH & Cox) heading the debate. Suttle seemed to be coming apart at the seams to the point of losing his composure (temper) for awhile there. And, it was apparent that the man sitting in the middle of the two ladies was disgusted with Suttle.
Rebuttal/Suttle was obnoxious and extremely rude and even forgot himself for the moment. I noticed that Hal Daub kept his composure all the way through the debate. But, how frustrating that must have been for Hal.
Didn't Hal Daub say he would not run again many years ago?
anyone?
Brinker?
anyone???
To 9:46 PM:
You are not paying attention !!!
So, rethink the question. Who is the hypocrite?
the sun came up today, was Hal Daub responsible for that too!
Leavenworth Street Blog = Republican hit machine.
10:02 Big Deal !!!
Haven't you ever changed your mind? IFFFFF, he did say that. How about Suttle, not that long ago he was trying to decide where he was going to live after his retirement.
" Way back in the day, the former speaker of the house (it might have been Tip O'Neil, I can't remember) jokingly threatened republicans, that he'd order them to be locked in a room with Hal Daub until they came to consensus. This guy's time and come and gone.
I feel sorry for Omaha.
Hal Daub recently worked for some big shot Virginia health care insurance company as a lobbyist.
Hal, thanks for lyin' about your 2001 retirement intentions. I and my spawn thank you.

If you are going to pull out your old hackneyed Hal Daub stories, at least get them straight. It was Ways and Means Chair Dan Rostenkowski. Hmm, having someone knowledgeable about tax writing. What a novel idea.
So that's how desperate you Suttle folks are? Trying to dredge up 20 year old stories? Hal's term as Mayor isn't good enough for you?
Here's an idea: Try to argue on behalf of something -- anything -- Suttle has PROPOSED he'll do.
We'll wait.
Did Daub ever say he would accept Obama's stimulus money?
I'll wait.
Daub was John McCain's campaign manager in Nebraska.
Daub = go back to the past
Suttle = move into the future
Suttle's ego is such that if he were to relieve himself in a room full of people, he'd expect applause and adulation on his
artistic abilities. I believe he'd expect his 'gallery owner friends' to hold an exhibit for his "work", and they'd call it
"Suttle Makes a Splash" or "Suttle's Puddles...but he's not puddle about Omaha" or something catchy like that. He could tie it in with the sewer project which he touts, but has yet to mention any concrete plans for it, when as an "engineer" (actually a former administrator at an engineering firm), one might expect this to be something he could hit out of the ball park (you know, the one where the Pope will visit to sled), when in fact it is only a talking point for him.
Actually, now that I think about it, Jim probably does know sewers, as they are both full of the same thing.
Suttle proposed a different approach to many important issues. Daub represents much of the same, which obviously isn't working.
Suttle's ideas are more broad, complex, not easily into a soundbite. While Daub can rattle off a million different items and numbers and stats that sound impressive, there isn't much substance.
Suttle would take a more balanced, comprehensive, level-headed approach to issue and would include all people. For example, crime is not just about pretending to be macho like Daub does. Why don't you stand on top of a tank next ad Hal. Suttle knows its not only more cops but its using our cops more effectively. Community policing works, Daub only makes fun of it. In order to reduce crime, you need to create jobs, and focus on drop out rates as well. Daub can't see that, he's too narrowly focused on playing cops and robbers to pretend to be tough to score political points.
Omaha, don't go back to Hal Daub! Please!

Suttle proposed 1,000 new jobs for Omaha.
Let's give him a chance.
We've seen Daub for the last 20 years. Been there, done that.
So 10:37/10:38, you managed to point out (twice) that Jim Suttle has no concrete plans for anything. He has said he has been running for Mayor since he was elected to the Council, but has NO ideas. He talks about what he wants but nothing on how to get there.
I'll take the solid leadership and wealth of ideas from Hal Daub any day.
Daub seems to want the OPD to enforce immigration and the FBI to replace the OPD on gangs. Has anyone asked the DOJ about his RICCO plan?
10:41,
I propose 2,000 new jobs for Omaha! Ooooh, elect me!
You're wrong, Jim does have sound bites..."Save Rosenblatt (well nevermind)"..."sleding Pope"..."ILLEGAL immigration is not a crime"
To 10:09
Quit feeling sorry, Vote Hal Daub,
for relief, and tomorrow will be a better day. Trust me.
Okay, how about this? One of the few concrete plans Jim has had is a multi-county/state organization to support such things as Rosenblatt. Hmmm, wonder how many cross-boundry lawsuits would arise there if one of the stakeholders isn't happy with any piece of it, which they will? The issue there is that nobody has legal jurisdiction, thus making it a VERY messy situation, and therefore there are huge legal bills that only benefit attorneys. AKA, a big liability to tax payers. "Regional solutions to regional problems" leads to regional lawsuits. Now that I've said that, I wonder how many attorneys have kicked in money to Suttle. Seems to be his MO.
Jim sounds like he's reading from business management text book, and is fresh out of a Dale Carnegie course. He talks a lot, yet somehow says little. His whole campaign is soundbites. Say the buzz words Jim..."1000 Jobs" (presumably by rubbing a lamp I guess since no plans have been mentioned)..."Go Green"..."Let's all get along" (provided everybody goes along with what I say).
To 10:44:
With having a friend that works at City Hall for the last 35 plus years, around Hal Daub and Jim Suttle, this person prefers Hal Daub, this person couldn't stand Jim Suttle. This person said Jim Suttle is sneaky, cunning and hard to work with, set in HIS OWN ways.
Been around both candidates... ops for Daub. And is a strong supporter for Daub as well.
Ya know, it seems to me that anyone who could possibly be for Suttle either has to be a kid (college) student or out of their minds. Maybe, that is why! It's true, "Birds of a feather flock together."
The problem with suttle is that he is an engineer and talks like one. He will be so detailed oriented (like a true engineer) that he cant put anything into laymans terms.
Anon 3:04: Suttle is an engineer yet he has offered NO details. Not on his website. Not in any interview. Not in any debate. And yet, he's still the front-runner. First Obama, now Suttle. Has Omaha lost its voting mind?
Suttle = disaster for Omaha
