Sarah-cuda in the Big O

A few pics sent in from the Sarah Palin rally in Omaha on Sunday.  First, from the rope line, with Governor Dave Heineman:

Next a couple from Sarah Brumfield who, along with Ryan Maher, got to present Governor Palin with the UNO Mavericks hockey jerseys.

Needless to say, Sarah (B.) was pretty pumped:
The energy inside that building was insane. I still have to pinch myself when I think back to it, knowing that not only was I there to witness Sarah Palin speak, that I got not one, but two hugs from the VP candidate. Even though they were running late by at least 20 minutes, she still took the time to shake hands, take pictures, and sign autographs.
A shot of the line to get into the venue and the Nebraska-Alaska connection.

Finally, a button Dayton Headlee got signed by Governor Palin (with our added shots...):

***

Is everyone pumped for the debates tonight? Yes debateS (plural). All three.
Three?

Yuh-huh.

You've got Mike Johanns vs Scott Kleeb at Creighton at 6pm (not televised that we know of).

Then you have Lee Terry vs Jim Esch at Creighton at 8pm (also not televised, that we know of).

But wait a minute, won't that be at exactly the same time as the Presidential debate between McCain and Obama ? Yeeeeees.
To quote Borat, Very nice.

Not that you would have watched the Terry-Esch debate anyway.

And not that the Prez debate is going to get much ratings anyway. (You heard it here first.)

(We'll probably do an open comment thing like we did for the last two debates. Be sure to come back later.)

***

And now the big endorsement that you were waiting for! No, not the Lincoln Journal Star endorsing Mike Johanns. (They're not wasting any time, huh?)  Sample:
Johanns would represent Nebraskans with fiscal prudence, common sense, civility and integrity.
No, we are are referring to Chuck Hagel's wife Lilibet, who is holding a press conference to announce her endorsement of Barack Obama.

Boy, we were wondering who's side Lilibet was going to come down on -- especially since she has already donated to Obama in the past year and that was covered by all the press. But, WHEW!, now we know.

And now we wait with bated breath to see who Linda Bond, Marcelle Leahy and Brooke Burr are going to endorse. That will certainly help us make our decisions...

Hilarious. The only person more insignificant to Nebraskans than Chuck Hagel is his wife. Most Nebraskans have never seen her. When was the last time she was even in Nebraska? At least Chuck comes back twice a year. This endorsement is light as a feather.

ITA! What's her name again?

What is happening with OBAMA-GATE? It appears that the mainstream media is contributing to this cover-up of Barry's past.

We as voters with inquiring minds want to know!!!!!!

P.S With what is just coming out how can anyone want their name mentioned in the same breath as Obama.

What are you talking about ben jr?

Chuck Hagel is married? I think Mrs. Hagel is the ultimate Washington insider - since it seems Washington is the only place she's been inside for the past 12 years.

ben jr.,

"With what is just coming out . . ."

?????

Please expound. What is "out" now that wasn't before? After you do that, please explain the relevance of these fresh, new discoveries. And if you truly believe the media operates in coverups, then they're also complicit in the cover up of McCain's infidelity to his first wife - how he left her after she was in a disfiguring car accident and married, Cindy, his mistress.

Personally, I don't go for the circus of drudging up the past unless it's truly relevant. There are no media coverups on either candidates behalf. I'm perfectly willing to accept that each man is a decent man with failings and shortcomings like any other. Nobody is squeaky clean. I choose my President based on issues, not on sidestories to which people attach the word "gate."

Furthermore, if you're so starved for dirt on Barry, venture beyond this quaint little blog, and go digging on the internet. You'll find out all kinds of horrible things about Obama that will sate your hunger.

I'll explain to you what is happening, Ben. McCain has rehashed a smear that already came up in the primaries, and the Obama campaign responded by releasing a mini documentary on McCain's involvement in the Keating Five scandal which is getting major attention on Youtube. The McCain campaign then described the scandal as a "political smear job", calling into question McCain's previously professed regret for his embarrassing sell-out.

The Obama campaign has made it abundantly clear to John McCain that if he intends to debase his campaign with gutter politics, they will meet him blow-for-blow. What else do they have in store for McCain?

This, perhaps?

Indeed, until just a few years ago, McCain openly boasted not only about his passing friendship but also his deep collaboration with one of the most prominent of Vietnam-era student radicals, David Ifshin. The same David Ifshin who denounced America on Radio Hanoi as McCain sat locked up as a POW.

I met Ifshin about the same time he came into McCain's life. But under very different circumstances. In 1970, as president of the left-leaning National Student Association, Ifshin traveled to North Vietnam with other anti-war radicals and it was then that he went on Radio Hanoi to denounce his own country's war effort. That broadcast was piped directly into POW McCain's cell in the Hanoi Hilton and he was understandably enraged by what he thought was a traitorous act by a fellow American.

(...)

As recently as two years ago, speaking at Columbia College, McCain affectionately and warmly recalled his relationship with Ifshin saying:

"We worked together in an organization dedicated to promoting human rights in the country where he and I had once come for different reasons. I came to admire him for his generosity, his passion for his ideals, for the largeness of his heart, and I realized he had not been my enemy, but my countryman . . . my countryman ...and later my friend. His friendship honored me. We disagreed over much. Our politics were often opposed, and we argued those disagreements. But we worked together for our shared ideals."

Lilibet eh? I didn't know that was her name, is she a lilliputian?

Oh my GOD! McCain palled around with a guy who vocally opposed the Vietnam war!? A guy who NEVER denouced his vocal opposition!? That is JUST LIKE Obama palling around with a guy who bombed U.S. federal buildings and continues to state that he wished he'd done more!

I'm good at equating things that should not be equated. I've learned from the best:

I can't disown Rev. Wright any more than I can disown my white grandmother.

They're going to tell you I'm inexperienced and, oh yeah, that I'm black!

Sure I've got connections to Ayers, but I'm also friends with a politician that thinks abortion should be outlawed!

This is the the "Vote third party guy....just to screw with things guy" The state's rights guy.
Guess who I am going to endorse???
The first one that says..."get a boarder, not a foreclosure" 108 years ago 85% of houses had a boarder.

Anonymous said...

what's a boarder?

Why do the Hagels think anyone cares?

Maybe at her press conference she can announce she has decided who to endorse but won't announce it until a later time and thank CNN for coming.

We missed the most obvious and best joke!
(Now I'm slightly depressed...)

Hey, Sweeper .... some goomer just called this a "quaint little blog". Aren't you gonna smack him around a little?

Your work is a lot of things, but I've never thought of it as "quaint".

Pax vobiscum ...

Sorry Mrs. Hagel hasn't lived up to your expectations as a hockhy mom, but she has been tending to raising her children to be responsible young adults.

You could see Mrs. Hagel on the annual ride across Nebraska, but that would require you leaving your parent's basement.

my friend said...

uncle,

I appreciate SS's work (I'm here too aren't I?) but this is a small blog with a small sphere of influence, hence "quaint." The world is bigger than Leavenworth St. That's all I was saying.

BTW, this goomer is a woman.

... and also with you.

Hey, nice pic of the two gov's. Who took the picture so up close and personal of Sarah and Dave?

Hmmm? A clue as to who Street Sweeper might be? Someone who talks about all things Nebraska politics, and has a lot of insider information, yet RARELY ever mentions Gov. Heineman's name? Hmmmm.....

Anonymous said...

Oh, and who also seems to have a soft spot for Lee Terry (God only knows why) and seems to have a lot of insider info about him too?

Hmmm....

Street Sweeper said...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm,

Sorry, I didn't take that pic. It was sent to L. St. and I'm waiting to hear back from the photog if he would like credit for it.

As far as DH goes, he's not up for election, and the politics around him haven't been as intriguing. Is there something you'd like to hear about him?

HMMMM?

Anonymous said...

No, nothing right now, thanks. I'll let you know if I do. Just voicing my suspicions. So, are you ever going to have a public unveiling? It's like when people were trying to find out who authored the book, "Primary Colors."

'Cept diff-rent...

My God, Palin is hot!

Sorry, I know it is a political blog but, seriously, has anyone else noticed that she is a total babe!

How come no one who looked like that showed up to our GOP meetings? I knew I should have moved to Alaska.

Seriously, she is smoking.

Can someone tell me who is her running mate?

Anonymous said...

Okay, then, back to a somewhat relevant topic...

did anyone else read about the AIG execs. who all went on a $440K spa vacation a week after they were bailed out by the government? Wha-huh? That makes my blood boil!

Anonymous said...

Lilibet Hagel never heard of her either!!!

Why aren't ACORN executives being investigated over voter fraud under the RICO act.

If numerous employees under any other company were charged and imprisoned someone at the top should be in prison also. There is a trend of fraud and yet the people at the top go untouched. Oh!!! that's right they say they are sorry and will work on it. Yeh right!!!!!!

The endorsement of Johanns is signicant in this respect: the LJS endorses Republicans when they think the race is over, and therefore their endorsement of the Dem. will do no good. They did this with Bush in 2000 and 2004. It allows them to counter charges of bias by listing all the GOPers they endorsed.

The fact they endorsed Johanns this time doesn't mean they prefer Johanns; it means they've given up on Kleeb.
