Nighthawks Now!

Say hey Leavenworth Street readers, a little jag for ya.

The UFL -- league of the Omaha Nighthawks featuring Ahman Green, Jeff Garcia and Maurice Clarett, just to name a few -- has offered a promotion contest for you, right here on Leavenworth Street.

So, to get in on this here is what you need to do:

First, watch this 30 second UFL commercial from YouTube.

Next, go to the comments section on this post.

YOU WILL NEED TO SIGN IN TO BLOGGER. This must include an email address where I can contact you back.

Then, leave a comment, about “This ad shows why politics and football go together because...” you know, just to keep things a little Leavenworth Street centric.

The comments will be viewed for originality, creativity, humor, taste, writing style and wit.

The contest will close at midnight Central, Monday, September 20th.

The best comment, chosen solely by me, under my complete discretion, that is 100% infallible, will win either:

Nighthawks Gear
This can be any single item under $40 from UFL-store.com

OR

Tickets
Two to any 'home' UFL game. (Nighthawks first game is Friday, September 24th at Rosenblatt.)

I will then contact the winner via their email address (if you win you will get an email from LeavenworthSt@gmail.com), and get their contact info for the prize.

Have fun (and be creative) Leavenworth Street readers!

And GO NIGHTHAWKS!

(Oh, and Gooooooooooooo Huskers!!!!!! And have a great weekend.)

DISCLAIMERS:

We gain nothing and have no monetary stake and no relationship or partnership in the UFL or the Nighthawks or the tickets or the gear or the sponsor, LA Online Media. If there are any problems with the tickets or the gear, you will need to go through the sponsor, as we will not be able to help you in any way, shape or form. No purchase necessary. Football, is just like politics-plenty of arm chair quarterbacking to go around.

Goooo, Nighthawks!

Oh, and ignore all those posers, everyone can see right through people trying to be something they aren't.

I am not signing in. I rather enjoy going through life anonymously.

If I win, please send my tickets down to the Hope Center. Maybe they can pull a name out of a hat for a worthy kid to get to the game.

You do know that Nancy Pelosi's husband is an owner in the UFL right?

I would think that alone would make you want to make sure the UFL fails.

So the Pelosi's are bad people till it benefits you? Sounds hypocritical to me.

Typical of Leavenworth Street Blog! Make fun of Omaha/liberals/Dems and poke fun of spending for a stadium, Talk about how bad that Rosenblatt's going away. Yet as soon as it benefits you - sell your soul to get in on that action. Forgetting how much you preach against it.

Do you hate Santa Clause till it's Christmas too?

I bet the UFL is going to love political rants on their YouTube page - it'll reflect nicely on our city, people of this city and those who don't have an agenda to push but want to just watch football in Omaha.

Make sure you get the chant right for the game. It's "We hate Pelosi ... even though he made this game happen."

Hey Jackwad,
1) L St is getting NOTHING out of all this. We are just (as Puddy would say) Supporting the team.

2) Who gives a rats ass if Pelosils husband is an owner?

And you forgot to signin.

Count me in as one who actually doesn't hate Nancy Pelosi. Sure, I can't stand her politics and would like nothing more than to see her kicked out of office...hard...but to say I hate her? That's a bit strong. Why, I bet if she weren't a political figure, I'd have absolutely no problem at all with her!

So as a result, folks like me, who dislike Pelosi's politics, could give a s*** less what her husband does to make a living. He's not a politician, and he's not imposing laws on us.

My only question about the Nighthawks is this...how long will Maurice Clarett last? As a Denver Bronco fan who watched Shanahan take a disastrous gamble on him, I have to wonder how long it will be before Clarett decides he needs to 'get his goose on'.

"Politics and football go together because the last thing George said to me, 'Rock,' he said, 'sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper."

One of the greatest Presidents asks you to go win one for the Gipper, what are you going to do?

The story of the "win one for the gipper":

Here's the movie trailer:

A really cool compilation of great movie quotes that includes the win one for the gipper quote:

My apologies for not including the UFL in this. Perhaps the team could come up with their own version of "win one for the gipper".

(By the way, regular readers, we will make an exception on this post for relevant, generally non-political links. Don't overdo it.

In both politics and football, there are chameleons who blend in and players who bravely don their colors, watchers who wait and see and do-ers who sweat and strive toward the goal.

Ok Sweeper I will play, My Buffalos suck.

In the forst part of the commercial there is a "Clinton" on a jersey..."Like Football, you can't have a winning team without a Clinton"

Next the commercial has fans that blend into the surroundings...."to be successful in politics you need to be a chameleon like the UFL fan"

Finally "like in the UFL and politics you have to have spirit and momentum to win big"

How was that?

This ad shows why politics and football go together because the fans are like the public. The players/coaches are like the politicians. The public, like the fans, blend in to society. We are the cheerleaders and the ones who really keep everything working even though we aren't the ones who need/get the glory. The coaches/players are like the politicians. The ones who think they run everything and everything would collapse if they weren't doing their jobs. They need the glory, but they don't realize that without the fans, there would be no football, without the public, there would be no politicians.

GOOOOOOOOOOOO Nighthawks and GBR!!!
