Flip flops and robots

Longtime Leavenworth Street readers know that while we address political issues like illegal immigration and health care, we're also not afraid to tackle the hard-hitting political news as well.

Case in point: Democrat Gubernatorial candidate Mark Lakers has already flip-flopped on his website.

See below:

At left is Lakers's "official" press photo and at right is his new campaign website header.

Does Lakers part that hair on the left, or the right?
Did he put this website together while looking in the mirror?
And moreover, what brand of razor is the guy using (because it doesn't seem to be getting the job done)?

Here, we're going to fix this right now:

OK, much better. Now back to your regularly scheduled blog.

***

2nd District Congressman Lee Terry's Democratic opponent has been put on the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee's "Red to Blue" campaign kick.

Under the program, the DCCC will provide "access to financial, communications, and strategic support from the national party."

Oh wait, we copied that quote from the wrong source. That was from 2008 Democrat candidate Jim Esch's campaign when the DCCC put him on Red to Blue and spent a million dollars on attack ads.

Well, we're sure that Tom White will have the same success with it that Esch had.

***

And as the left-wing forces continue to come after Lee Terry, you may have heard that they are employing robocalls to tell you that Terry is against the Obamacare health care re-form plan.

Robocalls. Yup.

No, it's not 1983. We checked the calendar.

Believe it or not, there are still politicians who believe that interrupting you during dinner to give you recorded message about politics is just what will sway you over to their side.

And the funny thing is, the robocall script from "Americans United for Change" (hopefully they'll collect enough to make a dollar), failed to follow the rules of the Nebraska Public Service Commission.  They were supposed to provide the telephone number and address of their outfit during the call. Oh, but don't worry, after their screw-up, they promised to fix all future calls.

They should be required to call everyone back and tell them what they did wrong.

 At 3am.

Robo calls have gone the way of the plow in dealing with dirt. White's campaign is doomed on its present course.

Robo calls are pretty weak... but both sides use them. They're really damn cheap, and they do work... just not very well. You get what you pay for.

Red to Blue is actually the first good sign that I've seen from the White side of the equation. It means at least somebody in the national party thinks they've got a shot. Maybe they know something we don't know... I certainly haven't seen anything that leads me to believe he's got shot as of yet, unless they've got some dirt up their sleeve...?

Sol,
They've been saying this about White for the past 9 months (there abouts). This is news?

Robo calls? Who is the brains/spokesperson for that group? Dave Nabity?

As long as we're getting our TIC (tongue-in-cheek) on, may I just observe that that pic of Lakers, whether from the left, right, inverse or orthogonal, always makes me think of Vincent D'Onofrio's character in Full Metal Jacket - I think his name was Pyle.

Dunno why - I see Lakers picture and I flash on Pyle with that goofy grin as his Gunny (R. Lee Ermey) just reams him a new one.

Ahhh ... memories

Let's compare the last two blogs. Gov. flips his pro life street cred and then lies that it was not for political reasons. yeah right Dave. And you've got a hospital in Beatrice you would like to sell me. And SS talks of the tough choice for the Gov. and begs everyone not to be judgemental but rather just talk about the politics. geez.

I can see why the Sweep would want to change the subject to "Minneapolis" Lakers flipping his photo.

I would guess that any future picture of the Gov. will be facing toward DC.

I wish someone would ask Julie at NRTL if the Gov had any conversations with her or her org. about coming out against 1110. I'll bet a signed Lakers picture (the team not the candidate) that took place.

I would also bet that the Gov waited to announce his position on 1110 until after the NRTL candidate survey went out so that they did not ask candidates their position on the bill.

JJ,

The DH post is two days old. But, lucky for you, it will be up there, for pretty much ever. Feel free to continue the discussion.

(And yup, this post is all about Lakers. Yup.)

As we've said many many many times before, it's amazing that we discuss "politics" here, eh? You'd think we should have titled the blog using that word...

SS, you should have included the best part of that OWH article: "The group is trying to pressure Republicans facing tough re-election battles to support the pending health care legislation."

Did they say that with a straight face? I hope their employer-provided health insurance covers mental health, because they are delusional and in need of serious psychiatric help. If Obamacare is a losing position in Massachusetts...

Hey Java Joe and the rest of ya,

The Governor's position now is the same as it was 4 years ago. He is not in favor of any state benefits for illegal immigrants - wasn't for them in 2006, isn't for them in 2010.

Tom White is the one polling the issue and he's scared to death, although I'm not sure what he has to lose after supporting ObamaCare and TARP and Cap and Trade....

Nice job once again by the Douglas County Party. NO candidates against four democrat incumbants in Douglas County and NOW, no decent Republican candidate to replace Chuck Sigerson. Nancy McCabe and the old Hal Daub gang, what the heck is going on?

Nick H. said...

5:20,
Since you seem to be confused, understand that the DEMOCRAT majority council will CHOOSE Sigerson's successor -- it's not an election. I don't know why any Republican would even bother filling out the paperwork.

haha does it really matter if republicans hold a minority in the omaha city council when they own the state senate, governor's office, and four of five congressional positions?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION - WHO IS BEING PUNISHED??

Why does Dave Henieman punish the unborn children of illegal immigrants but is too chickenshit to punish the agribusiness corporations that are bankrolling the NEGOP and his campaign?

Brian T. Osborn said...

Deficit Dave,

The children of illegal immigrants don't make campaign contributions - agribusiness corporations do. Need I say more?

When does taking responsibility start?

People don't mind giving opinions to a robo-interviewer but they hate being solicited by a robo-pimp to vote this or that way.

People prefer to be solicited in person, by someone who doesn't have dope-slurred speech, which may account for why the Democrats are using Robo-pimp.

"The children of illegal immigrants"? What part of ILLEGAL do you Democrats not understand.

Just so we're clear: the Nebraska Democratic Party and Ben Nelson's ego-stroked gubernatorial candidate support giving taxpayer benefits to ILLEGAL immigrants. I love it. Unemployment is up and the Nebraska Democrats are fighting for the rights of people who entered our country illegally to steal our jobs. No wonder you are in jeopardy of not being a legitimate party.

Nebraskans also love the angry anti-Obamacare commercials that we were treated to last Christmas. (My favorites were the angry doctor in scrubs who looked like she was about ready to pull a weapon in the ER, and the ones that borrowed the GEICO googly-eyes...)

macdaddy said...

You guys can complain and call Heineman names all you want, but the fact of the matter is that Nebraskans don't want Obamacare and Nebraskans don't want taxpayer funds going to illegal immigrants. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Now, if some Democrat wants to run on the platform of punishing CEOs for hiring illegal immigrants, you could get some traction with the voters. Same if you want to run against Obamacare. Unfortunately, you will get no help from your fellow Democrats, including SEIU. Republicans don't have a monopoly on listening to what voters have to say. Have at it, Dems.

The Douglas County Republican Party has been in a coma since 2004. The only courthouse race they won recently is John Friend/Clerk of Court.

No candidates.

No message.

Robo calls from Jane Kleeb's group?

Nope--at least not after 3/31.

"Change that Works--Nebraska" is shutting down at the end of the month.

Bye, Jane. Enjoy D.C.

Maybe Lakers is just really, really, really good at parting his hair in multiple fashions...

Hey, if the Legislature passes LB742, does that mean that we will finally know how much money Tom White has made off the public tax rolls in all his Civil Rights lawsuits against city and county agencies?

I wonder if the trial lawyers knows what he's doing to them?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Jane's new gig could be 'compliance officer' at Americans United for Change. She could teach them how to comply with state laws when they do robo attacks.

Where's the "Some Pig" web in the back of Lakers photo???

Hair. That's the topic of discussion with the governor's race? Actually it's better than the "politics" of the matter. Not to say that Lakers stands a rats's ass chance given his late entry, but I'd say Governor Dave's days of ah shucks golly gee whiskers is wearing thin to those who pay attention.

Anon: 4:14, The Nebraska Right to Life PAC survey doesn't have questions about every legislative issue that has surfaced in the past or that we anticipate might come up during a current session. Our questions are pretty general on our main issues of abortion, euthanasia and unethical bio-medical research. We do have a category of questions only for state legislative candidates which ask about procedure in the Legislature. We won't need a question on prenatal funding to determine where they're at. We should have some roll call votes to point to on that one. (And yes, we can reflect the Governor's position on the issue as well as the senators'.)

Jon Bruning, what say we?

Anonymous said...

Nancy MaCabe, useless.

Jon Bruning, the only person more self-centered than Gov Dave

Just at church and the majority of the people there said the same thing, NO to the illegal's. It isn't a Right To Life issue.

The Legislature will just huff and puff for 3 days and then not advance the bill. blah blah

Tom White seems to be hiding from the cameras in the Capitol lately, I'm sure he is in his office working on constituent issues.

What is Snow Plow Conrad up too? To quite, but that will end with LB1110!!!! It will great drama to watch as she and the twins tee off on the Gov.

WHERE ARE THE UNO STUDENT DEMOCRATS?

Lakers looks like a cross between Bob Hope and Jerry Mathers. Is that a good look for politics?

7:26--the flip side is if there are no competitive races, what is the incentive for D's to turn out? Especially when their candidate for Gov. is gonna get blown out of the water by Heineman.
