Nelson: The worst thing I could do...

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson has stated that he was not threatened with closure of Offutt Air Force Base, nor offered pork packages, to vote for the Senate Health Care re-form bill.

Nelson declared:
My vote is not for sale - period.
But...later...in an OWH article, Nelson said the following:
"I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to support a bill . . . but not trying to help Nebraskans would be the worst thing I could do."
Remember that line in that line in the sand on the Stupak-like abortion language?

Erased.

Recall that declaration about no government-run plans?

Rescinded.

You see, Nelson has just given him self an out, saying,
"...the reality of the status quo cannot be ignored and doing nothing means more Nebraskans will be forced into bankruptcy because of unaffordable medical bills, more will lose their health insurance and more will see their health insurance premiums rise."
Is this change of heart due to meetings with the President and his advisers and being leaned on by Bob Kerrey and the boys?

The spotlight may be getting just a little to warm for the Benator.

Is this Nellie's flop-sweat moment?

We continue to watch...

Please just get on with it.
The health care bill is so watered down, nobody likes it.
However, as a political event, a defeat for the Dems with their majority in both houses of Congress on the bill would be devastating.
So, expect it to pass. By Christmas.

Nelson's vote will help Nebraska get millions, and it will help the sewer sep. project and renovation of the VETERANS bldg in Omaha.

Ben Nelson will be bought.

I am all Nelson'ed out. Got a 50 minute teleconference with Michael Steele and Mark Fahleson this evening re: Ben and how Nebraskans need to call Ol' Earmark tomorrow to make sure we let it be known Nebraskans are dead set against the HealthCare bill and how he needs to vote against it. Like it matters anymore...Ben can vote anyway he wants and have a thousand different excuses once the Dems resort ot procedural trickery.

All-in-all the call was pretty much the same old scare tactics with little information. Fahleson's standard reply was "yep...whatever you said Mr. Steele." A mynah or parrot could have filled in equally as well. The Republicans have a long way to go before 2010 and 2012.

While listening...our television played Ben Nelson commercials one after another. I was beginning to think I was having a GITMO moment and was being tortured unmercifully.

My belief is this watered down version will pass before Christmas with the strategy being to get a "victory" then tailor it to add in what the Dems had to concede...e.g. abortion funding...public option...etc. Weasels...the whole damn bunch.

We the people are so screwed...and Ben Nelson will come out smelling like roses saying..."What? Me Worry?"

I want to know where NE Right to Life stands on Ben - if he votes FOR the bill, will the rescind their endorsement of him or refuse to endorse him in 2012?

Christ in a sidecar! Why don't you just start a Nebraska Right to Life Party and get your own candidate???
