The results:
Lee Terry: 49%

John McCain: 53%
Barack Obama: 40%
Undecided: 4%
And, just for the 2nd District, of this statewide Senate race:
Mike Johanns: 54%
Scott Kleeb: 39%
Undecided: 7%
The polling took place October 6-8, 2008.
400 likely voters.

Wow. That's pretty darn close. If Lee Terry gets hit by a truck between now and election day, Jim Esch could easily pull this one off! And I can see the huge impact Obama's three 2nd district offices are having!
As for Kleeb, I think you're seeing a bounce from his new hair style. He's such a handsome, husky-voiced hunk!

I bet it means a lot of people have social lives that keep them from visiting political blogs on Friday nights.
I am not among them.
Terry and Johanns have to feel ok about these numbers given the environment. However, three weeks is a long time in politics, especially when people are paying attention, so they can’t get too comfortable.
About Johanns: I’d be inclined to support him but one thing continues to nag me. I can’t understand his actions regarding Operation Vanguard when he was Governor. Operation Vanguard was an effective workplace enforcement measure (targeting meatpackers who were hiring illegal aliens), and Johanns actively – and successfully -- worked to shut it down.
Now, as a candidate for U.S. Senate -- according to his campaign plan -- he would “sanction employers who knowingly hire illegal workers.”
Has anyone ever heard him explain his actions regarding Operation Vanguard? I don’t think an explanation to Nebraska voters concerned about a real solution to the problem of illegal immigration is out of line. Especially since he says he takes a different approach now.

I voted for Kleeb here in the NE-3 last time around. Since then I have gotten to know more about Kleeb and will vote for Mike Johanns for Senate.
First, he said he would vote to take away the secret ballot from workers. As a 20 year union member, I realize he is paying off union bosses and does not represent us, the workers that get our hands dirty.
Secondly, as a member of PETA, Kleeb’s claim of castrating (mutilating) young animals makes me sick. He is nauseating.
If you care about worker rights and/or animals do not vote for Kleeb, he is an abomination to the human race.
Daily Kos - a real poll would add 10 points to each conservative. Heck probably 15 points more.
Lee Terry is a good man.
As a black person I am telling all my friends not to trust or follow the pimps of poverty, whether it is Obama with Acorn, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton or Suzy Buffett.
We are smarter than many people give credit. We as a group are Bible believing, hard workers with integrity and can think for ourselves.
We as a race have some crooks but when you compare our bad apples the stinky congressmen that should be going to jail like Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, and Charles Rangel our black population per capita is stellar in character comparison.
Batman, Johanns did comment at a debate about Operation Vanguard. His response was that it was a federal program and he denied any roll in shutting it down.
Sue, what do you think happens to the cattle that become our steaks and hamburgers? Johanns is a big supporter, as is Kleeb, of the cattle industry, which is a big part of our states economic infrastructure. The difference is Scott has worked it, Johanns has just talked about it. Did you ever wonder why people have Rocky Mountain Oysters in this state????

Kleeb played cowboy on his summer vacations for 3 or 4 years...I have more VOLUNTARY part-time cowboy experience than "Cattle Baron Kleeb." What I don't have is the time spent in bars and collection of speeding tickets that Kleeb owns. Johanns working on his parents dairy farm isn't cattle experience? Johanns family must have milked goats for a living.
Batman...Illegal immigration has fallen off the radar in this election...I guess it's time we demand enforcement from the ground up because it isn't going to come from the top. This country is in the final phase of the toilet swirl.

It's disturbing that the market goes down and the media panics about this. It's disturbing that greedy banks made horrible, high-interest loans to people who couldn't afford to repay, and broke people signed up for the loan and cried when they couldn't afford it - like someone did something to them.
But the most disturbing thing is some people's reactions.
Don't react based on fear or panic. Another negative reaction is that you are looking to Washington to fix your problems. Why would you do that? They have never fixed your problems, and you want Obama or McCain to fix things. That's ridiculous; there has never been a president who can fix your problems. They always say they can and they never can.
At what point did Bill Clinton fix any of your problems? At what point did he cause you to prosper? At what point did George Bush end your career or cause you to prosper? When did Ronald Reagan fix your problems?
When you look to Washington to solve your problems, we've got the seeds to destroy this country. It's time for YOU to change YOUR life.
There was a sweet 43-year-old lady making $15,000 a year who called me asking what Congress was going to do to help her. My answer to her was "Nothing. It's not their job. It's your job to read a book or take a class to get better so you can make more. Why have you accepted this as your lot in life? Why are you sitting around waiting on Congress or president to fix your life?"
It's not Washington's job to fix what's going on with you. If you are waiting on Washington to change something, you've got a long freakin' wait! It is YOUR job to take care of you. Don't sit around and watch TV and panic and think you can't do anything. I've made and lost money, and every bit of that had to do with me being smart and diligent or stupid.
Quit blaming Congress or looking to them to fix you. YOU have to fix you! When you wait on the government to fix your life and wait for money to be taken from others and given to you, that's a spirit of envy, and it's wrong. The only system that works is capitalism functioning under moral restraint.
Get some moral restraint, become a capitalist, and go be somebody!

OOTT, guess what, you got it wrong. I know Kleeb's former boss, a cousin by marriage. Scott worked during school at a ranch in Colorado until he graduated, working summers on the ranch near Dunning. After that, starting in 1997, he worked fulltime for 1 1/2 years at the Dunning (McGinn) Ranch until he got into Yale. He then continued to work there summers and holidays. In 2005 he's was back to fulltime until he ran for Congress, but continued to work part time as needed as he campaigned. Today, he's director of operations doing work on the business side from the Morgan Ranch who sells Kobe beef around the country and internationally.
As for Johanns, he loves to talk about growing up on a dairy farm, but he couldn't even milk a cow. Kleeb, who worked with bulls, got more milk out of the cow than Johanns who should have been an old hand at it!
So it's time to stop that old Republican LIE that Kleeb doesn't know ranching. Just give the McGinn's - a highly respected family and trusted ranchers in the area - a call and ask them. You'll find out. Then ask them about the World Leaders groups that Scott brought out from Yale. These were 2nd and 3rd world leaders who participated in this long-running program, and who Scott set up to join them on the ranch for calving and branding. It was new step for Yale and one that was highly praised.
So all in all he might have four years experience in his Wranglers. That barely makes him an expert on ranching.
Like I said earlier...I got more time as a volunteer cowboy/rancher/farmer than Kleeb and it takes a lot more than what he touts.
I've probably ate more Kobe beef than he has sold. Do you know what Kobe beef is? What breed of cow does it come from?
It's good to hear that Lee Terry is in the lead, but only by 10%? Come on Omaha, you don't need a rookie in Washington now. I'm from Kansas, and we threw out our congressman for Nancy Boyda... who took two years to just to find the restroom.
Lee Terry is respected in Washington by everyone, on both sides of the aisle. Nancy Boyda is just happy to be there. While you now have a Congressman with experience, on important committees, and has earned the respect of leadership in both parties, Nancy Boyda aspires to be on the Committee for Dog Licensing or something like that.
Tell your fellow Omaha neighbors that we are all scared right now. FDR said, in our nation's most difficult economic times, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". You know what's frightening to Me? Jim Esch, another Freshman Congressman roaming the Capitol with a Camera, DC Tour Guide and a Husker Red "Fear This" T-Shirt.
We'll pull through this Omaha, just as long as you do the right thing and Vote for Lee Terry in 24 days.

Just like in New Haven when I first met Scott he wore an earring along with his cowboy boots. His hands were always soft like that of a surgeon rather than a man that would harass an animal by riding on its back or cutting off parts of the animal he and others deemed unnecessary.

I have witnessed him over and over and over when asked how he stands on an issue, he will ask people how they feel about the subject and by the end of the conversation Kleeb has led people to believe he is one of them ideologically, even if he has taken stands against that issue earlier.
With his vacant stare, mumbling speech, and his need to perform cattle mutilations, Scott Kleeb may be an alien. Or, like Jessie, Scottie might be working up toward bigger game.

Candidate Kleeb is not being paid by Hastings College from college funds for his parttime instructing --- an outside party is donating the funding to the college.
This is starting to smell about as bad as the Hastings Newspaper publisher, Seaton, donating to the Kleeb campaign both against Congressman Smith and Secretary Johanns

I said it in the first post. I've volunteered more time on the farm/ranch than Kleeb's paid part-time job. I worked cattle and hay since the 9th grade...scooped the crap out of hog houses too. So I am a pretty good judge when it comes to analyzing a line of crap.
Kleeb's resume embellishments only get better with time. Why is it you either have Freudian issues or are a homophobe when libs are losing?
And the daily kos has been a bastion of truth for you right wingers for how long now? And on a completely different topic...palin is found by a BIPARTISAN committee to have violated ethics rules and she has the nerve to say that, 1.)it was a "partisan group" and 2.) she was cleared of any wrongdoing.
