Daily Kos buries Johanns-Kleeb poll

The kids at the über-liberal "Daily Kos" paid for a poll of Nebraska voters on the Senate and Presidential races.

What, you didn't hear about it? Well, that's because they released it on Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend. You see, that way no one will hear about it or read about it because you're all off doing three-day weekend things and won't read the paper. Well that's why we waited until today.

And why would they bury such an exciting poll of their glamor boy, Scott Kleeb?
Let's fly back to Saturday morning and lay it out for you:

Johanns 58%
Kleeb 31%

TWENTY-SEVEN points. That's right amigos. And these number are since that Rasmussen poll that had MJ 55%, Kleeb 40%.

And remember what the numbers were back in November (when we unfortunately used the verb "smush")?
Johanns 59%
Kleeb 28%

Yup. Haven't moved.

And here is what is even funnier. Remember that Obama tidal wave that Kleeb and Jim Esch are hoping to ride in November?
Take a look at what that same poll, paid by Daily Kos, found:

McCain 57%
Obama 29%

Oh, and by the way, guess what Hillary "I sure hope Barack doesn't get assassinated" Clinton polled:

McCain 58%
Clinton 28%

Yes the Obamania that swept through just a few short months ago has pretty much done zip.

The Johanns Juggernaut © continues.
And that means that Nebraska "in play" in November is less likely.
That means more liberal Democrat money into Nebraska is less likely.

But then, no one said it was likely that Nebraskans were going to vote for liberal Democrats, like Obama and Kleeb.
Just ask the Daily Kos pollsters...

Regardless what the rest of the country does, and regardless that Nebraska voters will sometimes put Conservative Dems in positions other than president, Nebraskans always vote GOP for president.

There is no Dem Prez wave to ride here. Kleeb has to sell his blue jeaned liberal self all by himself. The DNC appreciates Kleeb but won't waste money to stroke Scotty’s puffy ego.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe these results whatsoever because the poll failed to include Brian T. Osborne's "guarantee" that Scott Kleeb would beat Johanns.

Nostradamus.
John Edward.
Sylvia Browne.
Miss Cleo.
And Brian T. Osborne.

Brian T. Osborn said...

Well Paul, there are those that put a lot of faith in polls. The only one I believe in (when they're not being tallied by Diebold or ESS machines) are the ones that take place in November.

Anonymous said...

Kleeb and McCain are dead meat.

Anonymous said...

The luster has left Scotty and his campaign.

The sun is setting, Scott. Ride off now before everyone -- including those wearing the red Kleeb shirts -- realizes it was just an act.

Now if we conservatives just had a reason besides Mike Johanns to show up at the polls.

I'm looking forward to the retention of judges part in November. I always try to create new jobs for judges. Then there is the Weed Control Board...always a hotly contested race out here in the weeds.

Kleb took one for the party...they owe him...what I don't know...but he'll go down bleating even bigger than he did against Smith. I know it's too early in the game...but it's time to fire up the robo-caller Scott...then play the blame game.

In Nebraska...McCain will win...but it won't be by a record number by any stretch of the imagination.

Anonymous said...

Hey Right Wing...

There IS a reason to show up at the polls in November.

Pat Flynn is conducting a write-in campaign for president. Flynn for POTUS!!!

Anonymous said...

How much do you want to bet Kleeb moves out of the state if he loses and goes to DC. To the NE GOP...get the Cowboy to commit he stays here win or lose after the election. I guarantee you the Kleeb plan is to make a living in DC on Scott's good looks and his wife's Big Mouth!!!

Anonymous said...

Pat Flynn for POT!

Anonymous said...

Not real surprised by this poll for Senate. MJ is a solid conservative and not a political whore like McCain, who would beat any dem in this state.

Brian T. Osborn said...

1/3, I liked that, new jobs for judges. ;-)

Cabby, your momma must be proud of you.

SecGuard, what kind of political whore IS MJ?

Anonymous said...

Interestingly, the poll you reference also included Bush's approval rating (nearly 60% unfavorable/under 30% favorable)...this may not pan out so well for at least one Congressman who blindly supports his every move.

Many an average NE voter still thinks of McCain as a maverick. Remember eight years ago when he was shunned by the likes of "real conservatives" as too liberal?

I know you love love love Lee, SS, but that's one "real conservative" who would be lucky to squeak by, no matter how you spin it.

Street Sweeper said...

"Love love love"? That's a little strong, no? I would agree that if Lee were running against Mike Johanns, it would be a close race.
There.

Anonymous said...

I would think that if it were Kleb vs Bruning it would have been a meatgrinder. With Johanns...we all take a nap and when we wake up on 11/8 Johanns will have already slipped out of town with Stef on his way to DC.

Bruning lost credibility by bowing out.

To me...McCain is not a maverick...Hagel is not a maverick...they are sellouts to any voting block that will feed their ego. Each bend with the wind...easier than a willow.

We the people are being dealt a weak hand across the board. The worse is yet to come. Geez...maybe I ought to get one of those walking billboards and stand out on the corner.

Anonymous said...

Sorry if i wasn't clear, McCain is teh political whore.

Anonymous said...

Fortunately for Lee, if he does pull through it won't be in spite of Johanns but because of Johanns in '08...and Heineman's name and Ricketts dollar in '06...and the list goes on...

Anonymous said...

i agree with anon at 10:31. Lee terry is a joke and if this was a competitive state it would he wouldn't be anywhere near washington

Anonymous said...

To Security guard: Who is a joke??? You clearly cannot mean Lee Terry! Lee actualy is a life long Nebraskan, actualy held jobs, and ran for a smaller office, won and was reelected. Took a real resume and won a house seat. The joke is the colorado ranch hand!!!!Note to Kleeb: you should have run for that unicameral seat in Hastings! Look what Mike Flood has done in a few years in office. He actually has a legitimate chance to go to Congress and has a record to run on.

Anonymous said...

Lee is on what committee??? Oh yes, the Energy and Commerce Committee and in spite of his efforts, we see gas and food prices going through the roof. What a joke.

I have a question, how many members are only on 1 committee, besides those on appropriations?

Anonymous said...

To anonymous: The Dems are behind high food prices and gas costs. ANWAR would be online now if you wacked out environmentalists would allow domestic drilling in Alaska and offshore of CA and FL. Furthermore your party has made it imposible to get new nuclear plants online in the past 25 years.

Anonymous said...

To the uninformed observer of Congress, everyone on an "A" committee is only on one "A" committee. Appropriations is an "A" committee which was obvious to you because it begins with an "A". Ways and Means is also an "A" committee. I am sure you did not get that one because of the "W" and the "M". Another one is Energy and Commerce. That one should have been easier for you because "E" and "C" are so close in the alphabet to "A". Is it possible that you are alphabetically challenged? Perhaps you had to go to the Commoner's School like Lee Terry did?

Anyway, I believe the 4th "A" committee is Financial Services which you might have gotten if those darn Republicans hadn't been so sneaky a couple of years back and changed the name from Banking (starts with a "B" and you surely would have guessed that one).

How about I send you a dictionary, my copy of Basic English Revisited, A Student Handbook (Sebranek/Meyer) and a copy of Lee Terry's resume? With these three items, you will be able to alphabetize, spell, cite references and quotes correctly, and see what kind of a resume you have when you have actually worked for a living-or at least worked hard enough to pay for your education.

On NE2, a question: Can anyone tell me where Jim Esch's headquarters is located? There is nothing on his web page about it--actually, there is nothing new on the web page since the primary. What's going on there?

Anonymous said...

To Anon 8:58 a.m.: that simply isn't true. While SOME members of these "A" Committees only serve on one committee -- many more serve on more committees. Especially if they're ranked as low as Lee Terry is!!! For goodness sakes! He's #19 down the line of the minority list in seniority! Only seven (7!) members are lower than him in seniority!! And he's been there ten years?!

Anonymous said...

And Lee Terry's website hasn't been updated since BEFORE the primary. He's still asking us to vote for him on the 13th of May (ha!), and he also wants us to march in the parades for him on May 3 and 10. Ha ha ha!

The answer to where Esch headquarters is that he has no headquarters. He must be operating out of his residence (i.e. his parent's basement). With all of his realtives maxed out, my guess is that he is having cash flow problems and is trying to cut corners. Afterall, who wants to invest in a lost cause?

Anonymous said...

Actually has the ESCH PAC made their General Election Donation yet?
Some free election advise for their campaign, one person can donate $2,300 for BOTH the primary AND general election.

Just wait until the next quarter report. They're probably good for another 100K.

Anonymous said...

Yes, you might be correct about "A" committees. However, many of those members are on the Ag committee, the Financial Services, Small Business committeee, Transportation, Committee on Homeland Security, and Veteran Affairs.

He is only on the A committee nothing else. but again, I ask. Since this is his ONLY committee assignment what has he done??

Before ths Congress, Republicans were in control of the Congress the first 4 terms of his so-called distinguished career. So again, I ask what did Republicans accomplish besides driving up food and fuel costs.

Anonymous said...

To the last anonymous: Lee Terry votes on a conservative agenda and not with Nancy Pelosi. I couldn't care less if Lee ever writes a bill. Lee casts a vote for tax cuts, a republican speaker, pro-life legislation, and other matters that I am concerned with. If this is your standard then Tell me what makes Obama qualified to be president. He has authored how many bills, he has served how many years in the senate, he thinks Auschwitz (in Poland) was liberated by US forces....hmmmm

Anonymous said...

Wow pol observer, if you live in the 2nd district you have VERY low standards for your representation in Congress. Maybe that explains why the Leester has been in Congress so long.

Anonymous said...

Having known and worked for Lee Terry, and a basic understanding economics, how is Lee Terry to blame for increases in the cost of food and gasoline?

First, in a market economy, it is the market, not our elected representatives, that set prices. Second, Lee Terry, as a Republican, has consistently been on the side of greater energy exploration and drilling, bringing greater energy supplies into the market to reduce costs. He has also been an exceptional leader in the race for hydrogen fuel cells.

In contrast, the Democrats have consistently voted against clean nuclear energy and oil exploration in Alaska and the coasts with the politics of fear, not science.

Today they claim it will ten years for oil from drilling in ANWAR to reach America, but then they said that ten years ago. The Democrat energy strategy is: 1) if it moves, regulate it; 2) if it is still moving, tax it; and 3) when it stops moving, subsidize it.

Americans deserve the broadest possible choices in energy. The technology for getting oil from the coast is available with no environmental impact, which is why there were no oil spills after Katrina. We let the Chinese oil companies drill off the coast of Florida for the benefit of Cuba and fail to protect our own energy interests.

Lee Terry is part of the solution, not the problem.

Anonymous said...

And thank you very much to Lee Terry's energy staffer for making an appearance. Glad to see your paycheck will be safe for another month for posting this. You might want to make sure you save some of it though, you might be out of a job come November!!

Anonymous said...

For 8 years Terry was in the majority and 6 of those years they had a Republican president in the White House. However, during that time we saw gas prices beginning to rise, food prices starting to rise.

He is not part of the solution, he is part of the problem.

Anonymous said...

Give me Hal Daub as my Congressman anyday, please!

Intellectual, effective and strong leadership are the hallmark of his time in Congress.

Anonymous said...

First, I don't work for Lee Terry. (If I did, I would have got the ANWR spelling right the first time.) But I take it as a compliment. Frankly, it would be nice if some people with real policy expertise wrote in to criticize, instead of the sad Democrat political hatchet men we so often read.

Second, it is true, during a portion of Lee Terry's tenure in the House of Representatives, the Presidency and both houses of Congress were controlled by Republicans. Unfortunately, during that period, there was not a veto-proof majority in the Senate, where many good bills went to die. It wasn't the Republicans that prevented legislation to bring common sense energy policy to Washington, but the threat of Democrat filibuster.

That aside, the Republicans have done a poor job of controlling spending, but, if that is the problem, the Dems aren't the solution.

The law of supply and demand can't be legislated out of existence any more than the law of gravity. If you want less expensive fuel, support drilling, the creation of new refineries, and the elimination of tariffs on ethanol from Brazil, where it can be economically made from sugarcane.

Anonymous said...

Um, pearbo, seeing that you started your last post, "Having known and worked for Lee Terry...." I assumed you were a staffer. What were you? His pool boy? Personal masseuse?

Anonymous said...

Poor public policy is the point I have been trying to make.

We have certainly had the opportunity to force Democrats into uncofrtable positions, however, we aren't willing to take the stand to do that.

Reference back to the Government shutdown of 1994. Since then we have been scared to fight them down on principle.

Anonymous said...

Anony, in reference to pearbo, the term "worked" would seem to indicate past tense, not current.

Again, as a public service, I offer my copy of Basic English Revisited.

I assume I could just send it to your campaign office, I mean, your parents house?

Anonymous said...

Terry is a solid conservative, basically a puppet. I dont think he has an original thought or any thought in his body that doesn't come from the Republican leadership. He will vote for low taxes, then pass the buck on to future generations to pay the bills, he should be for small govt but allows it to grow to astronomical proportions. he should be all about personal freedom but wants to regulate what happens in a bedroom and courtroom (gay marriage) and what decision a woman makes with her own body. All about a strong military, we all know how that is. He will follow the religious ultra-right wing because they keep him in office and all the nut jobs that like that will vote for him. If he isn't beaten this year then he will be there 30yrs and not accomplish anything worthwhile.

Anonymous said...

I wish someone would poll the registered, regular republican and independent voters to see how many are supporting Lee...I've worked for Lee in the past too and he's lost a lot of support amongst his former allies.

Furthermore, the average Joe republicans I've talked to don't seem to like Lee too much. Knowing Lee, he's worried that Jim Esch is a strong general opponent and also similar to a primary opponent...he appeals to a lot of moderates and republicans. And unlike two years ago when the NE Dem Party largely ignored Jim in order to thwart attention on Kleeb, they are drooling over him this cycle because they realize they could actually take back the seat.

And for anyone who thinks Jim upsets the extreme liberals, do you really think they'll let that keep them from an attempt to get rid of the likes of Lee Terry. Not a chance.

BB said...

Regardless of what you think of Lee Terry, no sensible person can say that Jim Esch is a good alternative. That is, unless, you are staunch liberal who wants whoever represents the 2nd district to do whatever Nancy Pelosi says. Honestly, what in Esch's background seems to suggest he is fit to serve in Congress? The answer: NOTHING! Esch, and pseudo-Cowboy Kleeb, are perfect illustrations of how short the Dem's bench is in NE. If Esch were a Republican, he would be told to sit back and wait his turn. And in the mean time, make a career for yourself with some responsibility and gain some life experience, maybe get married and raise a family, and check back with us in about 10 years.

Anonymous said...

To all those talking about ANWR as some great answer, just a few facts:

1. Discussion of drilling at ANWR actually goes clear back to WW2.

2. A recent (as in released last week) report by the US Department of Energy found that if drilling occurred in ANWR, it would take 10 years to start producing, and the savings to Americans would average only 75 cents per barrel.

So, if you want to focus on that, and think a savings of a couple cents per gallon of gas starting in 10 years will make a difference, then keep supporting it. In the mean time maybe those alternatives need to be explored and expanded once and for all (ethanol, hydrogen, electric, etc).

Anonymous said...

BB,
To assume that Jim Esch would follow whatever the Dem party line is shows how naive you are. look at his view on the issues, is he the extreme liberal pelosi is? Esch says he would caucus with the blue dogs, they're a liberal bunch as we all know. i sincerely think esch would be a independent dem, vote his conscience instead of the party line. i would love to have a human instead of an idiot robot.

BB said...

arentacop,
I'm naive? How many Blue Dogs support amnesty for illegal aliens, nat'l id cards, socialized health care, and have cast a vote for Ralp Nader like Jim did in 2000? You are the naive one if you don't relize that a liberal can't show their true colors if they want to be somewhat competative in this state. Don't worry, Lee will do a good job of letting the electorate know who Jim really is this cycle and Jim will be lucky to get 40% of the vote.

Anonymous said...

FYI,

Just because you "caucus" with a group of people, that doesn't mean you get to do what you want instead of what the Conference wants. Ask all the "mavericks" in congress how much they have been able to accomplish. One would be Tom Tancredo-how many of you "blue doggies" think he's just a nut? If you don't have a seat at the table with your leadership (like our Congressman does), you sit at the kids table in the kitchen and fight and whine like little kids do.

Jim, quit whining, quit lying, quit cheating, and most of all, quit bankrupting your family for your own ego!

Anonymous said...

Well, for me -- and a lot of upset Republicans I know -- this election cycle is just about getting Lee Terry OUT. We can handle two years of Jim Esch, and then recruit a REAL Republican candidate who will be MUCH more effective than Lee Terry ever has been.

Street Sweeper said...

Allright, allright. Enough of that utter BS.

If you've got a pro-Esch point to make, go for it. But let's stop the "I'm a real GOPer that wants to get rid of Terry."

Thanks

I'm a lifelong democrat. After seeing Nancy Pelosi piss away the mandate we gave her and the new congress to raise taxes, surrender in Iraq, legalize all forms abortion, nationalize health care and other liberal policies. I and many other liberal democrats are going to send a message and vote for Lee Terry. Jim Esch has upset many of us so we "democrats" are going to vote republican......lol

Anonymous said...

To anonymous, anonnymous, and anonymous: Do you in the Esch camp think anyone on this board really believes in the Lee Terry crap that has been posted on this board. I think it is safe to say that no one that posts here or reads this blog are going to switch parties because of an anonymous posting. (Sweeper please shoot me if BTO or UNL 4.0 and I agree on anything)

Also I have yet to see any Republicans sign their name to a letter and send it to the OWH Public Post. Hey Eshites, remember when the Carter camp spread lies about Jim in the primary. Do you really want to do the same thing on this board. If you are going to tag Lee do it on the issues.

Anonymous said...

I don't know why it's so hard to believe that there are Republicans who are fed up with Lee Terry. I am one.

But, oh well. Stay in your state of denial.

To the Anonymous before this message: Please answer these questions so whe can understand your position. 1. Why are you fed up with Lee Terry? 2. Will you vote for Jim Esch? 3. If you answered yes to voting for Jim Esch, state what issues that Jim supports you agree with. 4. Do you think Brad Ashford is a good Republican State Senator?

Anonymous said...

Just to be clear, is being generally ineffective an issue? How about making a mockery of congress by talking tough to wrestlers? (To be fair the rest of congress is equally guilty) How about sitting on the energy committee but not having a decent energy policy for this country?

You still didn't answer my questions Anonymous. Which member of the Esch family are you??

Oh read todays world herald on Lee Terry's Energy plan,

The 12:30 anonymous wasn't me, the 11:50 anonymous. :)

To answer your questions:
1) He is totally ineffective. He has accomplished nothing in his 10 years there. He is on one committee and way down the totem pole on that committee, I might add -- even after BEING THERE FOR 10 YEARS! Nobody takes him seriously, and he doesn't have an original thought in his own head. If he didn't share a name with his father, he never would have been elected to anything in the first place.
2) At this point I am seriously thinking about voting for Jim Esch just in protest, but there is also a strong possibility I'll just leave it blank or write in a name.
3) I think he's on the right track with what he wants to do for education. Pell grants, invest in teacher training, etc. I also like what he has to say about stem-cell research.
4) I really am not qualified to comment on Brad Ashford. I haven't followed his positions at all.

My main focus this November will be to make sure that Lee Terry is not re-elected to Congress.

Anonymous said...

Lee Terry has had alot of "plans". The ineffective part is that his grand "plans" do not come to fruition, and that was even before Dems took congress. He and they (republicans) had their shots and blew it, Dems turn to screw things up now.

Is that Anne Boyle whining about the Congressman sharing a similar name with his dad. I thinks she's just pissed that the Democrat Machine pushed her aside way back in 1991 when Lee Terry cleaned her clock for the City Council seat.

In spite of, or despite, her sharing a name with Mayor Mikey. Also, don't forget how long we wrote our tax checks to her daddy instead of the County.

As far as Jim goes, is he banking on getting votes because he shares a name with his daddy-the wounded war veteran? Just wondering because as far as anyone can tell, the only reason Esch has any money in the bank is because of his last name.

BB said...

Lee Terry "doesn't have an original thought in his head?" Wasn't Esch the one caught red-handed plagarizing someone else's position because he couldn't come up with one of his own?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 1:04 -- see, it's just that kind of arrogant thinking (your comment about Jim Esch's father and where Esch's money may have come from) that has me "fed up" with Lee Terry and the Terry camp. Lee, for some reason, feels some sort of sense of entitlement to the seat or something, and he will negatively attack anyone who tries to challenge him.

Anonymous said...

Okay bb, tell me all the original thoughts that Lee Terry has come up with in the last 10 years? Come on....give me five....one for each term he's been in Washington. I challenge you. (And you can't claim ideas he stole from his leadership or his committee.)

Anonymous said...

To 11:50 anonymous: Thank you for answering my questions. Your answer concerning Brad Ashford proves you are not a true republican (it was a validation question) If you believe Brad Ashford is a good republican satate senator you fail and if you answer that you are not knowledgable about his record you fail because any republican in good standing knows Brad Ashford is a republican in name only by his liberal votes to repeal the death penalty and to raise taxes.

Anonymous said...

Oh Omaha repub, you're funny. That's why the republicans are in such trouble....because of thinking like yours. Trying to brand someone a "true republican" over silly things like if someone pays attention to individual legislators or not.

I personally think it is more important to try and create an "open tent" for republicans. This is why we need to get Lee out of there. He is just a puppet for the Republican leadership line. If we get him out of there, get through two years of an Esch term, then HOPEFULLY we can find a republican who is more independent minded -- not to mention effective and energetic in working for 2nd district Nebraskans. A republican congressperson who will actually write more than one bill in ten years!

Anonymous said...

Oh, and I'd rather Jim Esch get his money from family rather than all the big oil money that Lee Terry has in the bank (see Joe Jordan's blog today).

Anonymous said...

Nice plan Lee has, counting on a industry that barely exists (Cellulosic ethanol) to produce 13 million barrels a day in 7-10 yrs, getting 5 million barrels a day from traditional methods (Ive heard it would be 10 yrs before we would even see the results of drilling in ANWR) We cant get energy independence by doing more drilling, if you think we can please stop breeding. How about some (more) tax breaks for buying hybrids? how about ending subsidies for the oil and gas industry? How about putting more money into electric cars (like the chevy volt)? that will have more a an impact than any druilling we could do. Apparently begging the Saudis (twice) to produce more oil in the same year wont amount to anything. Where is the leadership and common sense on the energy committee to see this? oh yea, its lee terry, nevermind

BB said...

It has been proven that Esch doesn't have any original ideas. Your accusation that Lee doesn't is simply childish name calling. You don't like Lee, that's fine, I get it. But no one from the Esch family on this site has ever been able to articulate what makes him qualified to serve in Congress. Certainly his resume does not articulate that, which is why he will never be a Congressman.

Anonymous said...

To bb and other Lee Terry supporters (Ewww, that didn't come out right. But I digress...)

What do you think about Lee endorsing Obama for president? From Joe Jordan: "...what Terry calls "The Obama-Terry voter." Terry says they are, "people who want the right kind of change."

Anonymous said...

Sec Guard-you must have missed the part in the press conference when Lee did call for hybrid credits, urged the early roll out of the volt which he told reporters doesn't use the gas powered engine until 40 mph or 40 miles of use. Celulosic is barely in existence because the Dums wanted to use ethanol instead of better alternatives.

Get it straight.

Nebraskans would vote for a Joe Stalin or Pinochet if they ran as Republican. The people of this state are as devoted to a one-party state as were the communists or any two-bit dictator. They will continue to vote for what is worst for them because they are more wedded to a fantasy world of politics than they are to the realities of the 21st Century. The good thing is that they will reap what they deserve for their reactionary views (conservative they are not!)and Nebraska will continue to slip in income, creation of businesses of the future, and inability to hold on to its young. True conservatives, such as I regard myself, are appalled at the return to the past that Nebraskans yearn for.

Nebraska always vote GOP because we have a state full of religious freaks and apathetic morons. The country is failing in every aspect and you STILL haven't had enough. Do you even care about your country?
