For those of you who can’t wait for the online news updates to Chuck Hagel’s 10:00 AM CDT Monday “announcement”, three of the local Omaha TV stations will provide streaming video of the event live on their websites.
They are:
WOWT.com
Action3news.com
KETV.com
In addition, you can listen to the announcement on your computer as well via radio stations KFAB or KKAR’s websites.
(Thanks to Sean Weide’s Reader’s Media Notes for the detail.)
And just to add fuel to the fire, today’s edition of The Hill carries a story with this headline: “Sen. Hagel’s retirement a ‘distinct possibility’”
If that is his announcement, as opposed to a Presidential bid, expect member of the national media, who flew in, to pelt Hagel with rotten vegetables.

Gary Sadlemyer speculated on KFAB this morning...based upon chats with some supposed NE republican insiders...that Hagel will announce he's not only running for Presidential nomination but resigning from the Senate to do so...with Governor Heineman selecting Hal Daub to finish out Hagel's remaining Senate term. I'm still sticking with StreetSweeper's odds making.
"pelt Hagel with rotten vegetables"
dang it, Sweeper - don't tease me like that. Now I'm afraid NOT to watch ...
I think this is another example of poor writing. There shouldn't be any doubt at this point that Hagel's running for President. He wouldn't have accepted an invitation to the IAFF event next week if he wasn't running.
The question of "retirement" is where it gets muddy, because they're referring specifically to his retirement from the Senate, i.e. he won't run for reelection, without saying that they're specifically referring to that. Bad writing. Add to the confusion.
I'd put it at 99.9% that Hagel's going to announce he's forming an exploratory committee on Monday. As for whether or not he's running for reelection... he'll either dodge the question or give a definitive "no." I guess it depends on if he really wants to stay in the Senate.
Please, Senator Hagel, run! Not for the good of Nebraska, the nation and the world, but so we can see more of Jon Bruning....

"You need some Easter goodies for the kids......you Peeps it."
Resigning the Senate seat early so that a successor could be hand picked would be a really rotten thing to do. It would ruin what is surely to be an exciting primary.
Although, with such a crowded field of Republicans, it is possible that someone could win with only a small plurality of the vote. Maybe the NE GOP should switch to instant runoff or something for the primary. I can only imagine that Bruning would be for it given that he's only polling pairwise match-ups in a race that is sure to have several candidates.
ABC News reports Hagelterm limited himself. Yet he has very publicly struggled with his decision to run for re-eelection. He is ignoring his pledge and and gooing back on his word. He cannot be trusted anymore, in NE or in the WH.
Why would anyone be excited about running against Jon Bruning? I don't see anyone who can match his ability to raise money and travel the state and connect with people.
Look, if you're going to make some wildly partisan anti-Hagel or pro-Bruning or pro or anti anyone else statement, please try to be a little more creative in your homer-ific comments.
Thanks
I don't know why people on this board are in love with Jon Bruning. What has the guy done other than posture himself and put himself in a position to go to higher places? He's not exactly an intellectual law god or anything. He uses his seat as a bully pulpit to get more press for himself.
He wouldn't win....why? Because he stepped on the toes of Dave Heineman and the NE GOP machine by endorsing Tom Osborne. Thus, the same money and stature that brought Heineman up through the ranks will keep Bruning down. You can't grow a lot of 'grassroots' in glass houses.
Don't buy the Daub-will-replace-Hagel conspiracy theory. This is coming from the same folks who say Hagel is part of a one-world-government takeover plan. They drive around with "Nebraskans For Peace" and "Nebraska Farmers Union" bumper stickers, wear "UNION-YES" t-shirts, and defend "DUI Danielle" Nantkes in their off hours. What a sad lot.
Ed Randoulph
Ed,
Why is Daub-for-Hagel a conspiracy theory? Hagel may want to devote all his time to running for Prez (however unlikely) and the Gov could appoint anyone he liked -- so why not the dean of the NE GOP and his old boss?
But again, is this likely?
Only tomorrow will tell...
