Terry TV: a response

New Lee Terry TV spot, responding to the Tom White claim.

See it here:

Well, Tom White started this whole pay raise "issue" and Terry frames it right up.

And really, this is the issue that the White camp thinks is going to carry them to Washington?

Freezing salaries?

The funny thing is, with Terry responding to it and frankly, whacking the softball out of the park, the Terry camp has to be thrilled that THIS is where Tom White is spending his money.

With a month left, we will see if they have anything else.

***

New Terry mailer as well.

Now where have we seen HER before...?

***

You know, why would Democrat Vice President come to Omaha today to campaign for someone who is an avowed Independent?

Oh yeah.

It is because Tom White is a hard-core Democrat who supports ObamaCare and Speaker Pelosi.

Well, good thing Biden visited White so we could all remember.

***

Well, we see that Ben Nelson is in favor of compromising to raise taxes.

There's a shocker.

***

UPDATE

Here is what you need to know about Vice President Joe Biden's trip to Omaha Thursday:

Biden:  "Tom White: He's my kind of guy!"

I didn't know Lee Terry was a saint.

The only thing worse than White making it an issue is to respond in kind by making it a bigger one with another pitifully boring seen it before political ad.

Would that someone do something creative so they wouldn't have to beat voters over the head in frequency which explains why they have to raise such hideous amounts of money for air time.

174k is hardly close to 12K doubled or other.

Lee cleans up real nice for the cameras when he's splain himself and returning mud.

Anonymous said...

Fact is, Tom White is a liar and a hypocrite. If he didn't want the voters to know that $12,000 a year was beneath him, he shouldn't have accused Lee Terry of voting for pay raises when he didn't.

He voted NOT to hijack a transportation bill proving thousands of jobs-twice. Two times he failed to vote to halt the COLA in order to get the transportation bill passed 2 years past due.

The gig is up White, everyone knows what kind of a person you are now.

Anonymous said...

Just to get this straight, did Biden really call Lee out on voting to go to war following 9-11? Seriously, Biden voted for it too and now his own son is over their fighting and he blames the debt on other brave men and women like his own kid?

As for the prescription drug benefit for seniors? I have to wonder that once SS and Medicare were created, do we really not have a moral duty to provide for seniors that can't afford their medications that we paid doctors to prescribe to them?

???????

Anyone notice that Tom hasn't posted the World-Herald profile story on his web page.

Wonder what's in there that he doesn't want viewers to read.

Punching out some guy at champions? Being reprimanded by the U.S. Magistrate?

Anonymous said...

The ad is effective I think.

Alot of ads are the studio packaged type--this one is Terry speaking directly to the camera. Sets it apart.

Also, if you want to criticize someone on a pay raise--you probably should be sure you didn't vote for one in the past. White did--that's his problem here.

Anonymous said...

How much did they raise at the Biden event and how much was Tom White's cut?

I hope a reporter asks that question because donors were explicitly told to designate if they did not want Tom White to have their money.

Frankly, I would be pissed off if I spent $250 and got a tuna fish sandwich. I hope Jane Kleeb made the country club staff prove to her it was dolphin safe tuna and caught by union represented fishermen off the coast of Pelosi Land.

Anonymous said...

I like Lee Terry, but Lee looks and sounds like a doofus in this ad.

TexasAnnie said...

Doofus? Agreed!

Lee Terry's ad says: "He makes decisions based on what's best for his constituents, not party affiliation."

And who are his constitutents?
TARP beneficiaries...

GeosUser said...

I wonder when the "Tom White Liberal Democrat" ad from the Terry campaign is going to hit the airwaves. I don't know why the Terry campaign thinks they need to respond to White's amateur attempts to portray himself as "independent".

Anonymous said...

First of all, Lee just looks stupid in that ad because everyone knows there is a huge difference between 12k and 174k (or whatever they make these days).

And talking about last Sunday's OWH articles on these two candidates. Why in the H has Lee been spending all his time for the last 6 years on an initiative that doesn't do squat to help any of his own constituents?? Now there is an ad that Tom White should do. What has Lee Terry done for the OMAHA voter lately? Nothing.

Anonymous said...

And, okay Lee. You're so "bipartisan"? Which of the Democratic initiatives have you voted for in the last two years? You can't have it both ways. Either you're one of the most bipartisan members in Congress and will work with the Dems to get their stuff passed, or you are a hard-line conservative and will work to block anything the Dems want to pass. Which is it? You're speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

Anonymous said...

Terry's series of ads that have him speaking are very good, and stand out from most of the other studio-produced spots.

In think it is interesting that Democratic members in the House are the ones who said Terry is one of the most bipartisan Republicans.

Trolls who have questions on this should dial up some of those Dem members--ask them--have at it.

If White is "independent", then name one major Obama/Pelosi initiative that he hasn't already signed onto.

Anonymous said...

Interesting how the trolls talk trash here about Terry...

but then keep losing to him on Election Day...

Anonymous said...

The survey by The Hill newspaper is devastating for White.

You have Democrats saying Terry is one of the most bipartisan members--Democrats say it.

White is the only person who says he (White)is independent. No one else says or believes that.

Anonymous said...

Why the reluctance by the White campaign to post last Sunday's World-Herald profile on their web site?

Something in there they didn't care for?

Anonymous said...

With one month to go till election day, it sure is interesting that the Dem trolls come over to LS to post their trash and not just stay over at NNN and do it there.

How many trolls post comments at NNN in a week anyway?

Anonymous said...

Republicans call democrats trolls. We just call Republicans their normal insult type name. It is called Republicans. Because what is lower than a Republican? Maybe whale doo doo .

Anonymous said...

The newspaper reported that Heineman added, “Mr. Meister should be in contact with Sen. (Ben) Nelson, asking him to call his favorite president, Barack Obama, to intervene.”

I love it Gov. Dave! Favorite President...lol..lol..lol

Anonymous said...

"I hope Jane Kleeb made the country club staff prove to her it was dolphin safe tuna and caught by union represented fishermen off the coast of Pelosi Land."

I just spit my Mt. Dew all over my keyboard and it was entirely worth it!!!!!! Funniest post of the day...and sadly accurate.

Anonymous said...

"You have Democrats saying Terry is one of the most bipartisan members--Democrats say it."

And that's a compliment to Terry?? That just means they see him as no threat to their own agenda. That he is just an empty suit they don't need to worry about.

Anonymous said...

That throw-away line by Biden will be the best sound bite for Terry TV ads. What's up with "I'm not an arm of the Democratic Party Jane Kleeb" being on the inside of the White fundraiser to snap a photo of the Veep? Thought the BN people bent over backwards to appear "non-partisan." Who paid Jane's $250 to get her inside? BN? Dick Holland? Are they paying to get BN staff inside Republican fundraisers?

Anonymous said...

Who was the reporter allowed in to Bidenfest?

Anonymous said...

10 a.m.--nope. What is means is that someone can disagree without being disagreeable (or punching you in the nose like TW apparently likes to do).

Arnold P. said...

The last thing this country needs is a Republican who is bipartisan. We need real conservatives to dismantle Medicaid and Social Security, Repeal (NOT replace) health care reform, eliminate the Dept of Educaiton and balance the budget. I am staying home on election day and sending a message that we have had enough with fake conservatives like Lee Terry who the Democrats compliment as a nice guy who is easy to work guy. I can't vote for White but sure as kelp am not going to keep validating Lee.

Anonymous said...

Arnold - where were you when Matt Sak needed you?

Anonymous said...

Why werve only tuna fish at a Nebraska event?? Sounds like White's crew needs to be reminded that Nebraska doesn't grow tuna. But hey, I's guessing with Terry it would have been peanut butter and jelly.

Anonymous said...

So... is there really only one Democrat - some lady who works at a coffee shop - who votes for Terry anymore? They couldn't find someone new this year?

Also, was "Melanie/Melanee" spelled wrong in this mailer or the 2008 one?

Just a bang up job, either way.

Deb S. said...

I know of at least 2 democrats that will be voting for Lee Terry. Thinking of Tom White as a congressman makes me lose sleep and my makes my hair fall out!

Here is an interesting little whoop-tee-do:

Jane Kleeb and Bold NE were all ready to protest VP Biden with signs and slogans - they put up invites and information on their Facebook page and website, but then - they never showed up. Is this because Sugar Daddy Dick Holland gave Jane a call and told her to take one for the team and not show up at his boy Tom's big moment with the BFD-VP? Probably. http://www.campaignmoney.com/political/contributions/richard-holland.asp?cycle=10

Oh, but wait...Jane's Bold Nebraska is moderate, and not affiliated with ANY political party.

She is such a load of ...

Well, I hope the good people of NE wise up. Dick Holland wants wind farm develpment, hence the slogan "Wind Mills Not Oil Spills" on his bought-and-paid-for-girl's issues website.

The whole thing stinks. There is NOT ONE player involved in the whole Bold Nebraska deal who is not in it for the money. Except maybe for the poor college intern who gets stuck nannying for Jane Kleeb.

Why doesnt the LJS follow the money on Bold NE? They'd rather shoot Nebraska in the fiscal foot by persecuting TransCanada. Dolts.

Anonymous said...

If Terry Lee is always putting people before politics, how come in 2009 he voted AGAINST a house resolution H.Res 1113 "Celebrating the role of mothers in the United States and supporting the goals and ideals of Mother's Day"?

Anonymous said...

now wait a minute. If Jane and bold ne were in on the fundraiser, but yet had a protest schedueld, wouldn't that mean they were in cahoots? Hmmm I thought there was something in the law regarding candidates and PAC's working together...... maybe Tom White and Ian will report it and then it's all good. Otherwise it might me a Mark Lakers thing all over again.

Anonymous said...

Arnold P. Your nuts like all of the tea baggers. Why don't you just say you want old people to starve? Or people who are not healthy to die. I see you don't want to cut the military. I bet you would hate to pay any taxes to pay for anything. I bet you think wall street is wonderful and we need to get rid of all government and let the corporations pay the public starvation wages and work everyone to the poor farm. I bet you would not make any sacrifice for your country. What a joke. I am glad your not voting. Any normal republican is better than you and your nutty ideas. A liberal democrat is the best. But at least real republicans care about their country. You tea bag nuts are nuts. It must be the hex the witch in Delaware put on you.

Anonymous said...

Suttle is fundraising again! Gary and Ace are on the case!

Anonymous said...

1:43--maybe he helpd Sak, who knows. Sak strongly endorsed Terry and really hit it out of the park when he said:

"I agree with Lee Terry on 90 percent of the issue. I agree with Tom White on zero percent."

lol

Anonymous said...

10 am--what planet do you live on. Most voters don't like petty partisanship and fighting. Sounds like you do though--your home must be a wonderful place to be around.

You can take a principled stand--doesn't mean you need to be a jerk or obnoxious.

Anonymous said...

Excellent mailer by Terry--I remember the forcus he had last time on getting independents to vote for him. They did in NE2, unlike about 20 districts around the coubtry where the incumbent Republican lost as a result of Obama winning their district.

Smart move by Terry in focusing on bipartisanship. Other than a few idiot trolls posting here, it's a message most voters relate to and like.

Hey--it's great to see Melanee is back and helping Terry!

Hey--it's great to see Melanee is back and helping Terry!

You can disagree without being disagreeable.

That's the message here. Terry can do that--his opponent, doubtful.

Nice job Guv. Way to honor the Dicator. What a disgrace Heinman is to Nebraska.

Anonymous said...

Interesting that Biden visits on Thursday . . . and Rothenberg Report moves NE2 to "Safe Republican" the next day!

Have a nice weekend, Tom...

Anonymous said...

and exactly how many votes does Mr. Rothenberg have in this election? I thought it was up to the voters in the congressional district. Nice stretch.

Anonymous said...

11:45--the timing is just hilarious though.

Biden comes here for White on Thursday. The next day, Rothenberg moves the seat off of the radar screen. lol

Anonymous said...

Is the DCCC really going to target White?

At this time two years ago, they were already here for Jim Esch w/TV ads. What gives...

Anonymous said...

I thought Tom was in favor of the stimulus program and the new healthcare law--yet I see he never mentions either in the TV ads.

Buyer's remorse...

Anonymous said...

I agree 12:15, but given that these guys take their advice from DC consultants, they don't have a clue the toxicity of this administration and how most are simply not buying the hope or change routine. Rothenberg pointed out what we all already know.

Bad tactical move on White's part in every conceivable way.

Can't wait to see this tidbit lead off the next post:

"Ah, the perils of the public appearance.

"Congressman Lee Terry was the official coin-flipper at the opener of the Omaha Nighthawks UFL game at Rosenblatt Stadium tonight.

"And he was BOOOOOOOOOED.

"Heartily."

Anonymous said...

so?

Tom White sitll loses:)

Anonymous said...

And I thought I was booing the team that Nancy Pelosi owns with her hubby Paul.

Lee Terry was on the field? I didn't even hear them introduce him. Maybe I should get better seats for the game on the 28th.

Anonymous said...

I just returned from the Nighthawks, and yes Terry was booed - bad. It was equal to or worse than Suttle's appearance. Maybe Omahans want to recall Lee too.

Anonymous said...

Uh, I was there too, and Terry walked out the same time as Sacramento's players.

The opposing players were the ones getting booed, mainly anyway.

There were probably some people there booing Terry. Or maybe they just thought it was Jim Suttle coming back.

Anonymous said...

They were booing Terry's glasses. What is with those glasses?

Anonymous said...

Terry was not Booed. It was the Sacremento team. When your boy Tom, I fly from Iowa, White loses in 30 days we will see what public opinion is? Where are those planes licensed?

George said...

Sarah Palin's people blamed the booing she got on Dancing With the Stars on the scores that the judges gave to the dancers that had just finished. No, people, the booing the politicians are getting, from both the left and the right, is all well deserved. The answer, however, is not to replace them with idiots from the Tea Bag Party. The answer is for people to become more informed on what is really happening, electing representatives that find solutions that work for the betterment of us all, then holding them accountable.

Can anyone honestly say that Lee Terry and Tom White are the best people we can find to represent us in Washington? If they are, then Nebraska is in far worse condition than anyone thought.

Gov. Chet said...

I want to thank Tom White for the money he sends Iowa.

Anonymous said...

Go Melanee!!!!!

B Frank said...

Tom White: He's my kind of guy!

Anonymous said...

Maybe all this booing is more of a reflection on Omaha as a city than its mayor or congressman.

It's mean no matter who it is and neither deserves it by virtue of the office they serve whether or not we agree with the job they are doing.

It makes a statement about us to the crowd, including the kids there, as well as the players that go back to their respective cities and tell how backwards and ill bred Omaha really is though progressive in its own mind.

Anonymous said...

I was at the game too, and the booing started after Terry was introduced for the coin toss. Pretty clear they were booing him.

Democrats are football fans too. A lot of them don't like Terry. And maybe a few of them thought "turnabout's fair play."

Anonymous said...

Those saying Terry was not booed were not at the game.

The Sacramento team was announced a couple minutes before Terry.

According to those who are trying to cover for Terry's boos, the UFL has a coin flip when one team is not even on the field - or just coming on the field. Interesting!

A little hole in your story. Terry was badly booed.

Disgusted Catholic said...

Tom White is a bigot!!

I was handed a flyer today saying Tom White is the "only pro-life catholic" candidate for congress.

So Tom you are using your denomination against your opponent. That is bigoted and has no place in politics. This is one Catholic that doesn't buy your BS!

Anonymous said...

Thank you for posting Lee's bipartisan mailer. It will make for a great ad in the 2012 Republican primary when Lee gets ousted by a true conservative.

Anonymous said...

For those who are claiming that Lee Terry was loudly booed at the Nighthawks' game, I have a little wager for you: I bet Terry beats White (handily, actually) AND that Suttle is recalled.

If either of those things doesn't happen, I lose the bet. Any takers?

So who is this woman running for 3rd district House of Reps against Adrian Smith?

She was on KLKN TV last night after the news and they gave her ... GAVE HER ... 5 minutes of free air time and she absolutely laid an egg! Who is advising this woman? By any objective standard, it was horrid.

She has no message. None. True, her delivery was bad, but what made it worse was that she basically gave no justification for getting you to vote for her.

In a nutshell, here was her 5 minutes:

- I won't take any special-interest money and am not a career politician;
- I want to spend "meaningful" time in all 69 counties of the district ... So I'm taking a road trip; and
- she entered the race because her opponent voted against the "Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act."

That was IT! That's all she's got. Just Lilly Ledbetter. That was the only substantive issue she addressed at all. Just a horrid candidate who appears to be getting really bad advice.

Anonymous said...

7:59--look at who else made that list---Rep. Ron Paul.

Anonymous said...

So, does Tom have the balls to go in front of the crowd? Or will he stay secluded at home and attend no public events, regardless of the worthy cause for the next 30 days-like he has for the last year?

By the way, what is up with Tom White not being seen in public. My husband and I see Lee Terry and his wife(sometimes his kids too)at events all over the community. Doesn't Tom White like his community, let alone the people in it?

Why can't Tom White be trusted out in public? Does it have anything to do with what was reported in his profile piece in the OWH a couple weeks ago?

Anonymous said...

I read the World-Herald profile of Terry on his campaign web site.

I went to Tom white's web site to read his OWH profile, but nothing was posted. ??????

Anonymous said...

Just took a quick tour of the websites for each of the major-party congressional candidates in Nebraska.

Adrian Smith's is clearly the most impressive site from a design perspective. I thought Fortenberry's was the most substantive and he actually addressed the health care law unlike the rest who either ignored it or skirted the edges of it.

White's and Terry's were about equal in terms of design and content. Both were decent. Far, far behind the others, though, were the sites for Davis and Harper. They avoid any real discussion of issues, fail to contrast themselves from their opponents, and don't give voters any real reason why they would be either effective representatives or better than their adversaries. In short, they both completely failed to sell themselves.

Unlike the rest of everybody else in these races, they have no record to run on (or from) and you are really left with no idea who they are or what they stand for. It's like they're both running for student council on a platform of liking what everyone else likes and promising an extra recess and a longer lunch period.

Neither appear to be very credible candidates. Just lame. Both of them.

Anonymous said...

Wow, 8:37 a.m., no takers for the bet and it's been over 12 hours. Dems must not have much confidence in either of their guys.

Gambler said...

What are the chances someone who posts as anonymous would even pay off on a bet?

Anonymous said...

Gambler, I'm sure we could work something out with sweeper. Nothing illegal, of course. Maybe the loser agrees to make a charitable donation. Or, the winner could just have the satisfaction of being right. I don't need your money. I'll be content with just being right. Both Suttle and White lose. You would really risk money betting against that proposition?

Anonymous said...

to October 4th at 9:48 a.m.: The reason Tom White is rarely seen in public is because he has boobs for a scheduler and events coordinator you don't know how to do their jobs to make it happen.

Is this an indication of the kind of staff and what to expect when he's in Congress?

Anonymous said...

As funny as that is, the social events are invitations mailed to people that regularly give to their community. So he either doesn't give back to the community that he takes from, or there is a reason his handlers won't let him attend public cocktail parties.
