Anne Boyle? Really?

After Anne Boyle personally capsized the gubernatorial campaign of fellow Democrat Mark Lakers, we suggested she be the one to replace him as the candidate.

Well, she sort of did.

Kinda.

She gets to ride shotgun on the Goober Express -- show her face at the Elks Club, and such -- without having to drive.

Because, c’mon, who knows the name of the current Lieutenant Governor -- quick! No Googling! (Or looking at the photo with this post.)

OK, a few of you hard cores knew Rick Sheehy. But does the average voter? (Sorry Rick, but not likely.)

So, we’re to understand that Boyle motivates...who?

Well, will this excite Democrats to give the Meister campaign money? Away from Tom White?

Will it cause Heineman to “defend himself”, to soften him up in case he runs in 2012?

Nah.

This run by Boyle is all about Boyle. Dems were pissed at her, frankly, for making Lakers quit the race. She had to save face by “stepping up” and taking one for the team.

Only problem is, all the shots are going to be flying at Meister, not her.

And she knows it.

***

By the way, in the first story on this announcement that went up with the OWH, Paul Hammel described Boyle as a "super star".  In the LJS, Don Walton says that Boyle "blisters" Heineman.

Always reminds me of the Simpsons episode where TV anchorman Kent Brockman was reporting on Bart taking over Kamp Krusty.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I've been to Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and I can say without hyperbole that this is a million times worse than all of them put together."

Well she is one of the reasons I am an ANGRY DEMOCRAT...she started the whole mess with Lakers.

I am not saying that Lakers was right, but why kill the guy from the inside out...let the opposition do it.

With her on the ticket...the democrats just lost this vote and many more.

SUCK TO BE A DEMOCRAT MORE THAN EVER.

Jamie said...

She was a catalyst for Lakers' retirement, not the cause. Either way, nobody is unseating Heineman. Sweeps, why would she want to defend herself? She's old and has no long-term prospects, even if she is #2 in a year. And isn't she married to the least popular elected Democrat in Nebraska history?

Jamie said...

PS lol @ Angry Democrat. Two years ago it was smooth sailing. Your party screwed the pooch.

Anonymous said...

Jamie--

When did Ann Boyle marry Tom White?

Anonymous said...

When you willfully push someone off a political cliff it isn't called "retirement" it's more like a case of self-entitlement with Anne.

Cleary, Daub, Boyle...it's like a cross between one horrible nightmare or a perverse time warp proving what was once old is still old again.

@ Jamie

You are soooo right...only idiots could have destroyed all we achieved in this state...especially in the Omaha area...

and we have an idiot state chair...proof...look at the lack of statewide candidates, the quality of our governor candidate and look a the lack of money raise to help democratic candidates...

Will the republican party take me?

The Democrat brand was taking a beating with Obama & Nelson then came: Suttle, Lakers, & Meister, but now Boyle? Really.

Is it a wonder there are so few statewide seats held by D's? Heck this crew makes Mello look plausible.

Oh and lest we forget the Poster boy Tom White, oh my what a strange party the NDP is. Who will save them from themselves?

Nordquist? Mello? Where is the voice of the real democrat, the one who supported the Kennedy brand?

Again, until the fringe is booted from the NDP, the NDP will remain ineffective.

(hint to the members of the NDP, don't listen to Walton or the OWH hack)

What you see happening in Nebraska is playing out all over the country. The political elite, on both sides, are NOT listening to the people. This election in Nov will be more about the people than the parties, and those who are listening will fare well. Those who choose to listen to the old guard will have a tough go of it and may well find themselves unemployed.

It's the people stupid.

Anonymous said...

I was surprised to see Meister describe Boyle as horny in the OWH.

Anonymous said...

That is a very disturbing image.

November is just over the horizon, but the glow of a new day is beginning to break the darkness.

I can't name any Democrats in Nebraska -- besides Ben Nelson -- without conducting a Google search.

It's the Goober-Geezer ticket!

Mike Meister chose Anne Boyle because she is a leader, is outspoken and sees the important issues for Nebraska like he does. That was evident at today's press conference, together can lead Nebraska into the future.

Anonymous said...

The future? The only thing I can figure is that Jane Kleeb said she wanted to take the weekend to think about it and then Covalt told Boyle she owed it to the Party when Jane finally gave them an answer.

Having a Boyle on the ballot should help the Recall Effort tremendously!

I think Ann Boyle would be a great Lt. Governor. Doesn't the Lt. Gov handle Homeland security issues. She knows a few things about wiretap investigations that could come in handy. Also she would be a great advocate to legalize Bookmaking in Nebraska. Imagine all the revenue we could capture from bookmaking bar owners.

NE Voter would be very interested to know what "Angry Democrat" has been doing to build the Democratic Party/raise $$$/etc.

Reasons to vote against Deficit Dave Heineman.

*Nebraska has a projected budget deficit of $660 million for 2011-2012.
*Nebraska’s Economy has been declining the last two years.
*Tax revenues are continually short of projections.
*Much needed road repairs across Nebraska have been delayed.
*In the U.S. Department of Education’s “Race to the Top” Nebraska finished 39th.
*Beatrice State Development Center has been decertified y at a loss of about $28.6 million annually in federal funding.
*Nebraska's unemployment rate is the highest it has been in twenty-two years.
*Unemployment call centers can’t provide adequate service to all the unemployed.
*The foster care system is failing under Heineman's new "privatized" system.

NE Voter, who in their right mind would piss off any of their hard earned cash by giving it to the NDP? For years it's been run by a bunch of clueless hacks who don't have any idea what planning and strategy are.

It's counter productive to support an organization dominated by a counterfeit Democrat like Ben Nelson. I make all of my donations to candidates in other states who actually suport the traditional values of the Democratic Party.

I don't expect Democrats to dominate politics in Nebraska any time in the near future, but I think it's time that someone at least form some kind of stratigic plan other than blame all the problems on a lack of funding. If you want my money you're going to have to come up with something I think is worth purchasing. I don't make it a practice of just throwing my money away.

The Goober and the Geez! I love it!

This might mean that the Governor will update is campaign website. Somebody needs to tell the Governor that the election is Nov 2, not Nov 6. By the way, how is pandemic early warning going?

*In the U.S. Department of Education’s “Race to the Top” Nebraska finished 39th.

You can thank John Mackiel and OPS for that one.

Boyle is a loser. Still remember her getting her butt kicked in the City Council race in Omaha. She's 67 for God's sake. She's the democrat Hal Daub...just won't go away and can't win a race.

Millard Resident said...

Vote Mike Kennedy off Millard School Board.

That's why Dick Holland is giving his to Jane Kleeb.

Ewe! Was that as bad a visual for everyone else?

Thanks John Mackiel but you have to live in Millard to vote.

Great addition to the Dem ticket! Add one of the most dirty campaigning Dems in NE to give credibility to the Goober's run. I hope the Goober has a food taster on staff...LOL!!!

Anne Boyle dirty? How about the threat Heinman made to the children of Nebraska. Support me on the health care law. Or loose your funding? The teachers union found out that if you support a loon you get treated loony.

ANGRY DEMOCRAT said...

To answer the mysterious NE Voter...

I volunteer and I have given money to multiple candidates for public office...and most importantly...I VOTE...

I gave money to Lakers and got screwed by idiots running his campaign and those running the party.

I have a theory...Anne Boyle has always wanted to be the LT. Gov candidate and when Mark Lakers announce she was happy and was taking him around and introducing him to money people. He TURNED HER DOWN for the LG spot and she went POSTAL.

So she pushing the campaign finance issue (which could have been the result of some bad advice from some political insiders) she gets Lakers out of the race.

She then backs Meister because he has pledged her the LG spot b/c no one knows him.

Don't kid yourself if you think that ANNE BOYLE didn't have a plan in all of this.

Ask yourself, why would Anne Boyle want to run for LG when her husband stated that FAMILY issues stopped him from running for GOV. I know that LG is second on the ticket, but that goes out the window with your LG out stages and is tremendously more know and active that the GOV candidate.

Did she also squash the political hopes of her husband only to advance her own...one wonders.

Anne Boyle is a great lady who has genuine concerns. She spoke out against Mark Lakers because she cared about the integrity of the Democratic party, and she is running for Lt. Gov. Because she sees Heineman's disasterous policies and his tyrant behavior and wants to do something.

Macdaddy said...

Good grief. Was the guy who lives in his van down by the river not available? I'm quickly losing interest in this race. I was never much into telenovellas.

Anonymous said...

angry democrat, you're getting a little abstract... i feel like the next thing you're gonna say is "isn't it a weird coincidence that no jews showed up at the democrat convention that ousted lakers??"

Anonymous said...

Absolutely love the inside baseball that goes on in this blog:)

Anonymous said...

To Anon at 7:41 PM: Please don't insult Daub by this comparison. Boyle is completely opposite of this gentleman. Oh.. I mean both Boyles put together. I didn't know a thing about Meister until this Geezer Gal was his top pick. For sure, I will be joining many other Dems voting for Heineman. And Angry Democrat's theory is likely closer to fact, especially for those who have followed the Boyles over the years. The word "trust" is not in their vocabulary.

Who do you think is on the list to run for mayor?

Anonymous said...

I criticize MacDaddy, but this time he makes a funny point in his last post. Both parties are into retreads these days said to say. At least the guy by the river might be a fresh face with new ideas.

Subby Anzaldo for mayor.....tan, rested and ready!!!

Ernie Chambers for Mayor!

Anonymous said...

What about Brad Ashford for mayor? He was interested last time.

Who is Brad Ashford?

Ashford would need a ~D~ behind his name... and would not be a much better choice than the "King Cobra".

I spelled telenovela incorrectly. Perdoneme.

Ann Boyle is as corrupt a pol as has ever lived. Followed closely by her husband. They are the first family of corrupt politics in NE.

I always enjoy the over-the-top wack-a-doo posts on here from the angry left. The "tyranny" of Dave Heineman? It's "dirty campaigning" to remind teachers that we have no "extra" money, and if the feds force us to take some $500 million of what we do have and spend it in one way, that it won't exist to be spent on them (or anyone else, really)? That's dirty? Only if basic math is dirty. Only if reality it dirty. Good lord-- compare that "dirty" nod to reality to Anne Boyle's last failed race for city council (which she lost in a heavily Democrat district against a Republican). Recall what went on there, and tell me what "dirty" is. The only good to come of her involvement is that some of us who haven't had the chance to vote against either of the Boyles in years will now get to do so again. It's a great feeling.

Oh mander said...

Hats off to Councilmen Jerram, Festersen, Mulligan, and Gray for preserving the unique Dundee neighborhood.

PS - I hope all of you "Recall Suttle" people know what you're doing. After seeing Gary Gernandt in action today at City Council, I can safely say that he should never be Mayor of Omaha, not even for a short while.

Anonymous said...

I think Brad Ashford's support of gun control would reduce crime in Omaha. He would be a Mayor of vision.

Anonymous said...

The faux outrage goober and geezer both expressed when they explained why they jumped in the race was comical. First, you have goober who is outrageously outraged over the current gov's crazy, wacky decision to furlough state workers for TWO WHOLE DAYS!

Then, you have geezer who can't believe the gov would actually warn educators of what would happen to state aid to schools when this half a billion dollar hit to medicaid takes place. How DARE he?

Surprisingly, no intrepid reporters like Don Walton asked her how she'd deal with absorbing an extra half billion into the budget. I mean if she's so upset about Heineman saying it would affect school aid -- so upset that she joined the dem goober ticket -- then WHAT WOULD SHE PROPOSE DOING INSTEAD?

Anonymous said...

Oh, and a kind and sympathetic word for Brian Osborn. Brian, don't be offended about the whole goober thing. It's not directed at nor a reflection of the good people of the third district. Afterall, Norm Wallman is far more of a goober than Mike Meister and he's in the first district. See, now don't you feel better?

Millard Resident said...

Vote Mike Kennedy off Millard School Board.

The geezer RWP said...

Norm Wallman is a goober AND a geezer. He's like the whole Democrat goober-natorial ticket rolled into one doddering, incompetent package.

TexasAnnie said...

According to the Lincoln paper, Heineman will accept a $1 million grant from the federal health care bill. Good! Now you're on your way to "acceptance" of this national movement toward universal health care, Nebraska.

Heineman's cooperative decision is appropriate and should not be criticized for evident hypocrisy.

Anonymous said...

RWP, will you be voting against Norm Wallman again this year? ;)

Anonymous said...

All of you Republicans are a bunch of boogernoses and poopypantses. You also have bad hair, wear funny clothes and have bad breath. So there!

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty issued an executive order yesterday blocking the state from receiving funds related to the health care reform law. He's the first governor to take this action.

Will Heineman follow suit, or will he take the $$$?

Macdaddy said...

Heineman has my permission to try and get back all the tax money I have been forced to shovel into the great maw of Washington. I'd rather it go to my neighbors than AIG, Citigroup, BP, and the rest of Obama's big donors. And yes, I am part of the 51% that pays income taxes.

Anonymous said...

Okay, no more goober and geezer.

How about Meat Meister starring as the Sacrifical Lamb and Sot's Wife as the Pillar of Mint Sauce?

Dem in the Neb said...

I will still vote Democratic because anything is better than supporting a crazy republican. Boyle will be fine! Hey at least he didn't pick Jane "im crazy" Kleeb!

Anonymous said...

Macadday then if your one of the 51% then you were one of those who got the largest tax cut in history courtesy of Obama. Or are you one of the fat cats who got one of Junior's massive tax cuts for the rich?

Anonymous said...

That's funny...I'm one of the lower middle class that got a tax cut from Jr. And I am one of the ones who will suffer the most when Obama doesn't extend them...only 51% of the population pays taxes btw...we support the rest of the lazy sloths and those who figure out how to pay no taxes--ie. The Duggars of 19 kids and counting...although they do support themselves, and the truly downtrodden who account for about 15% of that.

Anonymous said...

Do any of you idiots here understand that the income tax is not the only tax there is? So what if low income people don't pay any income tax. I'm sure they pay sales tax, property tax (indirectly if renting), wheel tax, FICA, medicare,.... Low income does not equal sloth. In fact many of these people perform manual labor. You call that sloth?

Anonymous said...

Moronymous at 9:26 a.m., let's recap. Macdaddy says he's happy to have Heineman get back as much as he can of what the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT took of his in taxes.

Then, anonymous at 3:27 p.m. says that Macdaddy must, therefore, have been one of the beneficiaries of "Junior's massive tax cuts for the rich." Junior would be Pres. George W. Bush and the tax cuts would be income tax cuts.

Now, enter you suggesting that Republicans are idiots for not realizing that the income tax isn't the only tax. And that's very true. But it's not relevant to the discussion.

The Fed Gov doesn't levy wheel tax. Nor property tax. Nor sales tax. Macdaddy clearly wasn't talking about State-levied taxes. He was obviously talking about those taxes the Federal Government took away from Nebraskans that Governor Heineman might be able to gain back for Nebraska.

Try to catch up on the discussion before you start calling anyone an idiot.
