Nebraska Governor’s race poll

Rasmussen has a new poll out on the Gov’s race, and a few other issues.

The poll was taken yesterday to get data on Mike Meister, so here goes:

Dave Heineman: 71%
Mike Meister: 18%
Other: 2%
Undecided: 8%

Yup, 71%.

Back in March, Rasmussen had Governor Dave at 61% and Mark Lakers at 23%.

And here’s just Democrats:
Heineman: 40%
Meister: 46%

Ouch.

Heinman leads Meister 4 to 1 among “Independents”.

On other questions, 66% of Nebraskans support repeal of Obamacare.
73% support passage of an Arizona-like law for illegal immigrants.

See more of the statewide poll results here.

Yeow.

If I'm a Democrat donor, I'm asking myself one question right now. Send $1,000 to Meister, or flush it down the toilet and eliminate the middle man?

But on the bright side, for those who worry that there's too much money in politics, this should be an encouraging year!

Talking about toilets, Rassmussen polls are great for wiping with, but nothing else.

Rasmussen has one of the highest success rates in the last two election cycles of predicting the outcome of races.

Anon 12:02 - Find us a 'credible' firm that shows Meister (or any DEM) with half a chance and we'll talk.

To be fair, Meister has barely thrown his hat into the ring while Heinneman is old political dirt. Sorry Dave. But, why is our state in such dire straits and why was Beatrice State Home left unchecked all those many years?

In other news, apparently Lee Terry is one of several John Boehner has warned to not party with female lobbyists. Sounds like Lee was doing a bit of flirting at the Capitol Hill Club and was caught by the New York Post Page Six reporter asking a female lobbyist "why did you get me so drunk". How funny! Then in other news, apparently Michael Steele has hidden and failed to report $7 Million in debt. Apparently the RNC isn't doing as well as he would like you to believe.

Right above where you're supposed to leave a "comment" it says, "Leave your comment".

Cutting and pasting something from a gossip column is not a "comment".

Thus it was deleted.

The story says someone says Boehner talked to some members, and then quotes an unidentified reporter re: Lee. It doesn't say he talked to Lee. Lee says he doesn't know what it refers to. Our current President is the result of a mixed race marriage

Actually, no he isn't. Even if Barack Srs. marriage to Stanley Ann Dunham had been valid, it occurred in February, and Barack Jr. was born in August. Do the math.

But, in fact it was never a valid marriage, since Barack Sr. was at the time already married in Kenya. Even when your middle name is Hussein, bigamy is still illegal in all 57 states.

So certainly Barack Hussein Obama is the result of mixed race intercourse, but his parents were never married in any legally meaningful way.

Anonymous said...

Creating civil rights by taking rights away from one to give to another is not civil rights. Giving people a free education and removing a spot in education for someone that is willing to save money for an education is not civil rights. Filling a race quota instead of hiring the most qualified employee is not civil rights. Forcing dual income families to pay for their home and all that is in it and letting a single parent with no job and 2 or 3 kids live next door for a tenth of the cost is not civil rights.

You have your soapbox, I have mine. Mine s just usually paid for by individual hard work and saving. Your's is not.

Hey Sweeper - what's with the double standard here? You posted all over the phony Ben Nelson pizza parlor story - one generated by a republican operative dime dropping on himself - and now you refer to the NY post story as a rumor?

For those here who don't understand how Capitol Hill operates - terry would know the reporters by face - they spend their days intermingling in the hallways and in the bar rooms. So it is completely plausible and more than likely Terry recognized and probably even knows the reporter socially and thus adjusted his behavior. What is sick is how he used his kids like that - as a cover story.

Which part of the story does Terry deny? If he was not out with the lobbyist as the story claims then it should be easy to show that he was someplace else.

"I don't know what you are talking about" is not really denying the story - it is just feigning confusion. This is getting interesting, isn't it? Might this be the October surprise that White has been sitting on?

I am guessing that Lee will be avoiding any questions about this unless the press turns up some more facts regarding his after hours shenanigans.

A back-benching Congressman is featured in NY Post's Page Six column??? Hard to believe unless there is smoke, the gossip columnist is totally lying. Would it not be better served to attack Boehner, Cantor or Mike Pence?

Can we see a complete expense of what his expenditures are at the Capitol Hill Club?? If there is nothing to these rumors, then he should not have any issues with releasing these. I'm sure that Nebraskan's would like to know about his multiple 100 dollar bottle of scotch and his wine collection that he is spending their contributions on for his own personal gain.

Re Lee Terry: Why is it a lie? Because you disagree? Page Six is part of the NYPost - owned by Fox's Rupert Murdoch. Someone asked why anyone would even write about Terry if he's a back bencher, so it must be a lie. Well, how about this apple - they would write about Lee Terry because they overheard the conversation and it was good for their Page Six column, and had no other motive than to provide a juicy tidbit. Why would the need to go to all the trouble of making up a lie on a reporter? I do know that the identity of who exactly the Page Six reporter is changes and is kept anonymous so that they can go around getting these tidbits, while still working on their main news articles. Tells us what would be the reason to make this up about an NE politician?

Why did channel 3 remove Tom White's snarky comment about Lee Terry?

Is it possible that it didn't play well with some of his donors?

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, that's right. Let's make this story about Tom White now. Are you hoping to try to take some of the heat off of Lee by doing that? Nice try. @@ (yep, that's me, rolling my eyes.)

Anonymous said...

Just want to know how Tom White got channel 3 to change their story. Call it an inquiring mind, that wants to know.

Did they quote him without permission? Or did they take a quote from someone else and attribute it to him? Or did Tom White never make the snarky comment in the first place?

Anonymous said...

They probably changed it because it probably wasn't true. Unlike the Lee Terry story -- if it was untrue, they'd change the story. They're not changing the story, so what does that tell us?

It seems Mary Jayne Fields is giving Jane Kleeb a little of her own medicine.

Nobody cares about Mary Jayne Fields. It's a lame joke that ran it's course.

Oh geez, Lee Terry gets caught in a not so "family friendly" way, and the Lee camp keeps trying to change the subject to Tom White, Mary Jane what's her name, etc.

I have had students( one is a doctor now) who have taken your classes tell me you are a bigot and a poor teacher who rants and raves.

Yeah, sure. It's so plausible that someone who graduated from college, went away to medical school, came back and sought the company of their junior high history teacher, and just happened to mention a chemistry teacher they once had in one of the 30 or 40 courses they took in college. You're not a very good liar, Bud.

I talk to a fair number of MDs and dentists. Most of them graduated from UNL in the last 20 years. They all mention they took organic chemistry. (Most of them hated it) and when I ask, mostly to make conversation, who taught organic the year they took it, almost none of them can ever remember. After all, why would they? Even in my major, i remember the names of maybe four of the professors.

But you all have these students, more successful than you are, who are dying to seek out and share stories with their junior high school history teacher about this fascist professor they had in college, who discriminated against African Americans (know how many African Americans there are in senior or grad level physical chemistry classes at UNL?) and constantly talked about politics.

You're not a very good liar, Bud. But hey, prove it. Name the people who claimed this, what course they took with me, and in what year.

By the way, there are about 100 good sources that substantiate that Barack Obama Sr. was already married when he went through the motions of a marriage ceremony with Stanley Ann Dunham. But if you want a pretty unimpeachable one, try David Remick's biography of Obama 'The Bridge: the Life and Rise of Barack Obama', pp. 53. Remick is the editor of the New Yorker, and his biography of Obama is generally adulatory in tone.

Gerard, if you dislike Obama so much you should have voted against him.

Brian T. Osborn said...

Well ... hell!

As much as I like a good mudslinging, you're all getting lazy and throwing the same old mud pies back and forth at one another. Where's the sport in that? Why don't you ball up some good old cow-pies and sling them for a while? Maybe bring a bicycle chain to the fight and liven it up a bit!

I really could give a rat's ass what Lee Terry does in his spare time with lobbyists unless it affects the way he votes. I don't care if he drinks with them, I don't care if he boinks them, I don't care if he prefers boys or girls. But I do care if his vote is for sale. I also care when it is a Democrat doing the same damned thing.

If those of my fellow Democrats so intent on making a case against Lee Terry would observe Senator Ben Nelson, I doubt they'd find an awful lot of difference there, other than that the amount of $$$ filling Ben's coffers would be much more remarkable. Unless what a politician does in his or her spare time negatively affects the legislation they are responsible for, what difference does it make?

The fact that we pick over the foibles of everyone in the public eye is why we end up with such lackluster representation. Face it, people who have the strength to become exceptional leaders generally have some fairly questionable personal behaviors. Those people tend to gravitate towards the leadership of corporations, since that is where the REAL money and power lies. Once in charge of a corporation, hell, they can BUY all the politicians (and legislation) they want. They do this by sending out lobbyists to find the weak spots of our duly elected representatives, plying them with alcohol or sex, then twisting them into whatever shape they want them. If a politico is discovered in flagrante delicto, there are plenty of other equally weak candidates to replace them.

Pointing out the personal weaknesses of our political opponents usually backfires on us. Nebraskans obviously don't like it. Personally, I could care less; a bit of good gossip makes life more interesting. But I seriously doubt any of the merda tossed at Tom White or Lee Terry is really going to change more than a handful of votes. I'd probably vote for the scoundrel over the saint, given the choice.

Paul M. - When you're right, you're right.

A 5:08 - I would hardly categorize what I have written over on Bold Nebraska as "giving Jane hell." I'm just trying to keep 'em honest. Tough love as it were. I don't like it when my side screws up any more than you do, and I hope you don't like it when your side screws up any more than I do.

In the know - First of all, anonymous a**es are "in the know" only in their fantasies. Now I have been known to get a bit kinky from time to time, but cross dressing has never been in my repertoire.

If you had been paying attention, I called "Mary Jane" on the questionability of her identity from the get-go. Until I meet her face-to-face and verify her identity via her driver's license, I'm still going to assume that "she" is a figment of Mark Fahleson's imagination. (Mary Jane - I will be at the NDP State Convention this weekend, I'll be easy to find - most everybody knows me, even if some of them wish they didn't.)

As for the Ax (sic) I have to grind with the Kleebs ... what the hell are you smoking? I respect that both of the Kleebs have tried to get Nebraska politics to veer a bit more to the left. After all, I'm a Socialist if you recall. True, I am disappointed with some of the people they choose to hang out with (Nelson, Achelpohl and Reuben) and I think they'd be far better off if they didn't.

I've come across something shocking, SHOCKING, in looking at the Sec'y of State's voter registration info.

Not only is Gerald Harbison not registered to vote in Lancaster County, but Mark Meister isn't registered to vote in Scottsbluff. Nor does it appear that Mike Lakers had been registered to vote.

Of course, neither is Dale Heineman. And, perhaps most shocking and disappointing, E. Benjamin Nielson is also not registered to vote.

This sure doesn't say much for the politically-active folks in The Neb, does it?

Anonymous said...

I don't know what voter file you're looking at. Meister and Lakers are in there. There is a Dave Heineman registered to vote at 1425 H St. Lincoln, which is the governor's mansion. I see an E Benjamin Nelson that looks like it's our Senator.

The only one I don't see is the Nutty Professor Harbison.

Anonymous coward @ 9:34.

1. I sure hope his grading system is blind.

FWIW, it usually is; it always is in undergraduate courses. And in larger chemistry courses at UNL a TA does the grading anyway.

2. I'm sure glad I didn't have him for Chemistry.

Given your apparent absence of reasoning skills, I'm glad too. But I doubt you ever had the prerequisites. Actually, given you don't know how we grade, I doubt you've ever had any chemistry.

3. Who hired this guy?

The Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska.

4. I'm LMAO that RWP admits he is using an assumed name, "Gerard Harbison" that isn't his given name yet he blasts anonymous posters. Add hypocrite to the list of qualifiers to describe this loon.

I have admitted no such thing. To do so would be to give you biographical information, which I will not do.

Anonymous said...

Here's an irrefutable fact. There is currently no Gerard Harbison registered to vote in the state of Nebraska. That leaves only these possibilities. 1) RWP voted since 2004 but has now dropped his registration; 2) Gerard Harbison is not RWP's legal name; 3) RWP is lying about his voting record.

Anonymous coward @ 12:26. I owe you absolutely nothing when it comes to providing you with private, personal information. In fact, your attempting to procure such information is harassing and hostile, and frankly what it says about the mindset of the left is deeply disturbing. I am not a politician, I am a private citizen who has the impertinence to have different political views from you, and expresses them publicly. In fact, I would be fully within my rights to lie to you about anything and everything. But in fact there is nothing inconsistent or false in anything I've posted. That's because I respect myself, not because I respect you.

Frankly, the lot of you remind of a bunch of two bit, petty commissars, of the sort that ran Chinese villages during the Cultural Revolution. All you've really done is remind me of the importance of keeping your kind out of any position of power.

I used to be able to respect the left personally, while disagreeing with their politics. The harassment and the malicious and libelous public attacks I've received over the last few years have made that no longer possible. Those of you who don't actually engage in this sort of behavior yourselves certainly facilitate it.

And this is the last I will say on any of this, except to defend myself from the sort of personal libels that Bud has been posting. This blog is supposed to be about Nebraska politics.

RWP – I realize you need no assistance in illustrating the absurdity of the accusations leveled against you, but I simply couldn’t resist. As a contrarian, I toyed with the idea of properly arguing their case no matter how baseless, since there are some serious errors of logic. Instead I’ll point out just a few…

Anon:12:14 – in addition to your likely not having had a Chemistry class; it is doubtful you’ve had any courses in logic either. There are several other possibilities here for RWP (not an exhaustive list).
1) His ‘registered’ name is some variant of his online name. I DID check the voter file and this is a possibility (no RWP I’m not stalking you just amazed at some of the poor deductive reasoning skills being exercised here).
2) He is a legal voting resident of another state [if he spent time in the military or owns a primary residence he is entitled to do so].

Anon 9:34 – Regardless of a blind grading system, you should be more concerned about whether grading is based upon ‘objective’ or ‘subjective’ evaluation. Chemistry, as a ‘hard’ science tends toward objectivity (you do a lab; you come up with a proper result; you receive the credit). Other disciplines that are ‘soft’ science tend to be more ‘subjective’. Take, for the sake of argument political science or history. I wrote many an essay or short answer response to a test in college arguing why taxes are wonderful, FDR was the greatest President of all time, or Truman shouldn’t have dropped the A-bomb. These were all in response to the teachings / leanings of the faculty member. Try that crap in a ‘hard’ science and see where it gets you.

Anon 12:57 – You have failed to provide any ‘evidence’ of RWPs “dishonesty”. In my reading of his posts he has made NO such claims. It is simply posters like yourselves who have jumped to conclusions (through faulty reasoning).

The amalgam of these attacks only illustrates RWPs point in his 12:42 post of why individuals such as you should never be entrusted with political power in Nebraska (or anywhere for that matter).

There is no way that RWP is registered to vote in another state, I remember him saying how much he was looking forward to voting down one of the bond issues. If he has an explination that he's registered under his legal name why doesn't he come clean. It's funny he can't seem to explain where he's been voting since 2004.

RWP, you've been caught red handed, give it up.

Anonymous said...

1:08, look up Occam's razor please. You're really stretching to defend RWP. I think Anon 12:45 put it best showing all of the other "celebrities" that can be found, by name, in the voter file. I would hope that RWP, being a professor at a state-supported school, would be a resident of that state for voting purposes. And the only other "Harbison"'s in Lancaster County are far too young to be the professor. Despite your claim, there is no other name in the state that comes close to his moniker. Why RWP feels the need to not use his legal name is beyond me. First time in my life I've known of a university professor doing this.

Nebraska politics have changed recently. It started when someone (y'all know who it was) started following Adrian Smith with a video camera. Then they did it to Johanns. And now they're doing it not just to Lee Terry, but his wife and kids.

I look at what those three campaigns have in common, and let's face it, there's an obvious link.

Stalking is obviously about gotcha politics, but IMO it's much more an exercise in intimidation. Most people value their privacy, and stalking is a direct violation of it.
