Any Democrat for Governor?

Mark Lakers quit.

Joe Jordan says Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook isn’t going to run.
Anne Boyle said on KFAB this morning that her husband, Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle, isn’t going to run. (Say, who wears the pants around there, Mike?)

Those were the main suspects to take on Governor Dave Heineman in November.
So who’s up now?

The first name we have heard is Omaha lawyer Dave Domina.

Domina has a brief history as a Gubernatorial candidate.
He ran for Governor back in 1986, as a 35 year old lawyer out of Norfolk.
He ended up coming in second in the Democrat primary to former Lincoln Mayor Helen Boosalis 44% - 26% (Boosalis eventually lost to Kay Orr in the first Gubernatorial race in teh nation to feature two women.)

Since then? Domina has racked up a quite a few miles as a plaintiff and criminal defense attorney.

But other than those legal beagles wandering the Douglas County courthouse, does anyone know or remember his name? (We’ll give you a hint. “No”.)

Now maybe this is Domina’s plan to position himself for a better run in 2014. But note that he’d be 63 then. Maybe not too old, but not exactly a new and exciting young Democrat either.

So who else could take on Heineman this year?

Well, we have heard that DiAnna Schimek is the current choice of the Nebraska Democrat Party folks.

And after Anne Boyle took her husband out of the running, she mentioned Jim John Cavanaugh. Everyone sounded like he wouldn't do it.

Oh, and if none of them will step up, then we suggest that the Dems choose Anne Boyle, whether she wants the nomination or not.

You want to point to someone who got them in this mess, direct your finger at Anne Boyle.

Sure Lakers screwed up, but it was Anne Boyle who really threw him under the bus. Lakers could have skated along, straightened out the donor thing (in theory), and could at least have been A candidate. You would think he would have been better than nothing.

But that ship has sailed, thanks to Boyle (and to a lesser extent Hassebrook). So if no one else steps up, we nominate Anne Boyle. And she can see what it’s like to get dumped on statewide.

Your last line Sweeper was the best assessment to date. Long before the day their cry of "dumb ass" rang out across a Holy Name Fish Fry, the Boyles days have been long gone.

I heard tortilla Mr. Potato Head is available.

Speaking of Democrats, doesn't Ian have any news to tell us of positive facts about White and what he did while serving in the legislature or are we to only hear the negative garbage of how he isn't his opponent until November?

Ya wonder why people don't vote when served the same ole junk food.

How about Jane Kleeb?

It's a two-fer: Another Kleeb gets to run for office in NE and she can save $$$ by tracking herself at events.

I doubt the Kleeb's would stop running even if they both fell into a vat of Kaopectate.

Governor? How about a candidate for NE-2? An unemployed, drunk-driving, sophisticated, international playboy came within 4000 votes of Lee Terry and Tom White can't be bothered to campaign. Seriously. His website has zero information on what Tom White thinks. There are no campaign events either. This is just a bizarre strategy and if I were a donor I would be screaming bloody hell by now. Democrats want to holler about the lost decade of Lee Terry while Tom White can't even rouse himself to put in 6 months worth of effort.

Mac--Terry beat Esch by 10,000 votes, not to be picky though.

How about a vat of what happens before the kaopectate?

At least if she runs for Gov, then she can't directly screw up any of the school children in Hastings.

Well, we have heard that DiAnna Schimek is the current choice of the Nebraska Democrat Party folks.

Hard to believe they could be that desperate. Schimek is somewhere to the left of Castro, and used to call William Jennings Bryan 'that young whippersnapper'. She'll have to learn not to refer to the state as 'Nebraska Territory'. I'm not saying she's old, mind, but her first legislative bill was a set of highway improvements for the Oregon Trail. George Norris used to call her 'The Cougar'...

Thanks, folks, I'll be here all week!

Some rumors are circulating about asking Pat Bourne but why would he give up a good job on a suicide mission?

Anonymous said...

I think Pat has come to thoroughly enjoy his private life with his family. I would be surprised if he got in with kids still at home. He's been there before and knows how much time it takes from family.

Maybe Charlie Janssen could run for Governor as a Democrat. He was at the 2007 Lancaster County Democrats Patriot Dinner because he was considering switching parties to take on Fortenberry as a Democrat.

Why not, Strom Thurmond and George Wallace were both Democrats if you go far enough back.

Anon 11:23 My bad. It's been a while since I looked up the numbers. It will still be embarrassing, though, when Jim Esch outperforms Tom White.

Where's that Richard Carter guy with the board and marker doing heavy math when ya need him?

Pay attention kids:

2008
Terry 112,055 50.01%
Esch 111,276 49.66%

2006
Terry 78,488 52.76%
Esch 70,080 47.11%

After her performance on KFAB this morning, Ann Boyle should run for governor but only after she surrenders her seat on the PUC. That way she can focus 100% on her campaign to grant amnesty to illegals, provide state funded abortion on demand, legalize gay marriage, etc. Tom White will definitely be the first fellow Democrat to endorse her and her proposals.

2:10--oops! You must have overslept again and missed Prof. Carter's class.

The ##s you posted are for Duglas County only. The 2nd also has most of Sarpy--where Terry creamed Esch. Add 'em all up and Terry won by 10k.

2008 Vote--NE2

Terry 142,473
Esch 131,901

Terry margin: 10,572

Anne Boyle is not worthy to even be a candidate for any office for the Dem Party.

She has done more harm to the organization she once lead and now she has the balls to go on KFAB and inform us that Mike isn't going to run...WHO CARES..

The Boyles are the past...we need to look at the future...and the Boyles are that.

I would rather the Party no run anyone than put some "NAME" on the ballot...who will contribute...who will volunteer...we all know that DH will be the next Governor.

The Dem Party is burning and people like the Boyles have seen their influence fade into the sunset...

Unfortunately you have people like Vic Covalt and Jim Rogers running the Party farther into the ground...

The only reason that Ben Nelson is running in 2012 is because there is no democrat to run in his place...I am considering switching parties...

Anonymous said...

Actually, you are right. I forgot Sarpy County existed. Unfortunately, I was in Mr. Carter's class so that explains the math errors. What to do? What to do?

Charlie Janssen was not going to change parties to run against Fortenbery. He didn't have to. He was a Democrat. He changed parties to run for Legislature. This happened at the same time he left his wife and kids . . . He figured his values better aligned with the Republican Party.

More on the Obama/Gulf Disaster--NYTimes today:

(Local fisherman and LA officials decided in May one way to stop the goopy oil from hitting sensitive Barataria Bay would be to build rock dikes.)

"Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana supported the plan, and BP agreed to pay for the project, estimated to cost $30 million. By early June, about 100,000 tons of rock began being loaded onto barges in the Mississippi River for transport to the coast.

"But over the weekend, the Army Corps of Engineers denied a permit for the project... ."

Oil is now hitting Barataria Bay.

Good job, Dems...

That poor boy looked like he was about 15 in his photo. So sad.

Inside sources tell me that it's Lincoln attorney Dennis Crawford He's got the $$$ to self-finance and really knows the issues. Crawford hasn't been in the public eye very much, but has been watching Heineman make a mess of Medicaid funding. He's outspoken and isn't afraid to fight.

It is funny how Tom White isn't listed as one of the "potential candidates for the Democratic Party in NE now and in the future". Even this person recognizes that Tom doesn't have the fire in the belly to put in the hard work to be a strong candidate.

Mello, McGill..... hahahahahaha! Mcgill cant get a job even with a degree from UNL and a Senator. Mello oy my, oh my.

Dennis Crawford would be an awesome candidate and more importantly an awesome Governor. He was a Republican a decade ago and could fundraise from both parties.

Unless Paul Landow is tired of his paid retirement at UNO, Mike Fahey won't give up his partying down at the lake for anything like a fulltime job where he'd have to show up for work everyday.

Anonymous said...

Heineman would be torn into tiny pieces thanks to Crawford and his understanding of the economy as well as some smart political strategy from the guy. White would be running a sharper campaign if he'd actually take advice from Crawford. If NATA threw their weight behind Crawford, that would be a race to watch for the next 100 days.
