We received this photo from the Senator Mike Johanns press shop.
It shows MJ receiving the booty from his bet with Missouri Senator Kit Bond -- a slab of ribs and bottle of barbecue sauce, after Nebraska's (fourth quarter) trouncing of Mizzou in the Columbia monsoon.
The tragedy in this exchange?
Bond hands the good people of Nebraska (represented by the aforementioned MJ) "Jack Stack" BBQ sauce and ribs!
Jack freaking Stack?
Anyone who has ventured to Kansas City knows that the best barbecue around is easily Arthur Bryant's or Gates & Sons. This would have been like Johanns paying off with Burger King instead of Omaha Steaks. (OK, not really, but we felt the same when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor...)
An outrage, it is. A scandal!
OK, that's all. Back to work with ya.

It's good to see our elected officials can take time out for a little joviality. In light of Afghanistan...Iraq...Health Care...Card Check...Cap and Trade...millions unemployed...a tanking economy...etc...etc...
Make mine a rack from Famous
Dave's. My grill out back for that matter.
@ out in the third...
Paaaaaallllleeeeeaaaaasssee.
I have dipped my beak in all three of the BBQ joints referenced in Sweeper's post and(you can trust a fat man on this) Gates is several orders of magnitude ahead of the other two. AB's is a distant second, and, as SS has already artfully noted,
"Jack Freakin' Stack" ...??!!?
Oh, and btw, OOITT, Famous Dave's is for folks who think showering with their sister is just dandy.
Uncas...
I must have hit Arthur Bryant's on a bad day...their rack of ribs tasted like they might have been removed from the armpit area...if pigs have armpits. I do recall a joint in southeast KC that was pretty good.
Never showered with my sister so I can't make the comparison.
Jack Stack has the best baked beans in the world!
I would have traded the ribs and sauce for some of their beans.
First that SOB voted for Sotomayor, now he gives us crappy BBQ sauce! Blasphemy! Take his GOP card away.
The most borning Senator of all-time, Mike Johanns.
While don't you do something significant Sen. Mike, other than devote 99% of your time to shut down ACORN. I wish you could find it in yourself to look into Wall Street corruption since that is partly responsible for ruining the lives of millions of people. Oh wait, Sen. Mike wouldn't dare lift a freakin' finger to regulate his rich friends.
Oh and thanks also for ignoring the Pope and the Vatican on the Death Penalty NOT EVEN TAKING THEIR PHONE CALL! and then come election time tell us how Catholic Pro-life you are.
Prediction: Johanns will serve many years in the Senate but in the end he will not do anything new, innovative, stand up against rich people/special interests, and will never accomplish any significant reform or legislation.
Johanns - Booooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Jack Stack is very good, actually! In my not so humble opinion, except for the beef brisket, JS tops Gates!
Nobody has mentioned Oklahoma Joe's! Its a little lesser known than the others, but the best by far.
Here's an idea:
Why don't Vic and Jim R. offer a full slab of ribs and sauce to anyone who will file as a Dem for Gov., SoS, AG, Treas. or Auditor?
Blah, Blah, Blah.
Whoever made the comment about the raises given with stimulus funds should be a temporary bump and in 2 years salaries should return to pre-stim figures with an adjustment for COLA, was right on the money.
Iowa is trying to figure out how to "just get by" after massive spending in many areas, including teacher pay.
And they have all that gambling money designated to Education. Huh, I wonder where it all goes?
Actually, Famous Dave's is the best BBQ in KC. Can't wait to get one of those in Omaha!
It's a matter of personal preference. We happen to like both Fiorella's Jack Stack and Oklahoma Joes; they are just fine. I know many people who can't stand Bryants or Gates.
Did you realize that neither Gates nor Bryants ships actual meat? If you aren't in KC, you can only order sauces and rubs. No way Bond could have paid off without having someone fly to KC and back.
Famous Daves is like fast food BBQ and a poor second cousin to any of the fine restaurants (OK Joes, Gates, Bryants)already mentioned. And if i may be so bold, LC's BBQ is quite good as well. Im Nate E and i approve that message.
Two words: Smoke Pit
Why don't Vic and Jim R. offer a full slab of ribs and sauce to anyone who will file as a Dem for Gov., SoS, AG, Treas. or Auditor?
Heck, for a slab of ribs, I'll do it. I even have a slogan ready:
"RWP -- I don't just pretend not to be a Dem! "
