Dems and Former Dems
A-member Jim Esch?
Used to be a Democrat?
Wait...USED to be?
Yup. Jim has announced via everyone's favorite social networking site (no, not Twitter) Facebook! that he is no longer a Dem.
He's an Independent.
Why, you may ask? Well, you're not the only one asking. So have many of his over 3,000 (three thousand?) Facebook friends (including Jane Fleming Kleeb, whose husband Esch did NOT endorse in the Dem Senate primary).
Well, so far, Jim's not saying why.
We've already heard speculation about various office runs (or end-runs, as an "I") that Jim could/would make.
Maybe the "cool kids" table isn't what he thought it would be? I guess we just won't know for a while.
***
And the Democrat exodus continues.
Former Esch Democratic primary opponent, and later Lee Terry supporter, Richard Carter, has also formally switched his registration to the GOP.
Maybe Bellevue resident Carter can help Esch to make his switch complete.

New Yorker, Cosmic Bob Kerrey demands, "Trust me".
That's his email subject line and request in his fund raising letter out to Tom White potential donors in his run against Congressman Lee Terry.
Greenwich Village's Kerrey says that he knows "a thing or two about what it takes to be an independent voice in Washington."
You see, Cosmic Bob once called Bill Clinton "an unusually good liar". Oh and he also bought you a bridge to a field in Council Bluffs. So there ya go.
But hey, Kerrey can certainly pick 'em.
Just ask President Hillary Clinton.
Or 1st District Congressman Max Yashirin...
***
And speaking of those interested in the 2nd District Congressional seat, Matt Sakalosky was on Scott Voorhees KFAB show Friday morning.
In his interview he said "absolutely supports" Lee Terry in the job he's doing now.
Um....well. There you have it.

Research 2000 did a recent poll for the leading ultra liberal website, Daily Kos.
Basically it tells you that Nebraskans don't like the Obamacare bill, are glad Ben Nelson is trying to defeat it, and wouldn't have a big problem with him if he filibustered it.
Of course, they try then to spin that Nelson would be in big trouble in a close race -- like he was in 2000! -- if he didn't have Big Democrats supporting him.
Of course...why they glossed over his 2006 win is unknown to us.
Oh wait, yeah, it's because liberal Dems like the Kosites and the Post's Ezra Klein are unrealistic rubes.
(Yeah, we said it!)

What does this say about the Democratic party in the 2nd District? A whole bunch!
Does Jim Esch have a job yet?
I cant wait to see what Dodge Street has to say about this!
Oh wait...
Smart move by Richard Carter--Republicans will love him--the guy has a solid future if he chooses elective office. Go Richard!
Yes, Jim Esch does have a job. He is an image consultant. He has one VERY important client.
Also, you forgot that Cosmic Bob endorsed Esch too.
Bob did buy us a bridge, but only half of one. I was sort of hoping he would go back to the Senate for a year or two and get the other half of his retirement gift so I didn't have to pay for it.
Thanks for the new post and you brought up the Kleebs. Goody, now we can make fun of them some more!
Oh, I forgot! Welcome home Richard!
richard carter is a clown, no one takes him seriously.
jim esch betrayed his supporters
It's Mr Carter to you. You are just plain dumb if you can't accept Mr Carter's demonstrated dedication to our country, his economic knowledge, and courage. You only show your ignorance when you make statements like that. BTW I dind't support his run, but am darn glad he is working for our side now.
I'm laughing at the fact that Jane Kleeb asked "can we get some bold leaders". Hey Jane. You're living with one of those "bold leaders". What has he done lately? Does he even have a real job? Last time I heard he was courting New Yorkers to be a global warming snake oil salesman. Oh, and letting you lead him around by a chain as you lie and accuse Senators of calling the police on you. Some bold leadership there!
Anon 11:36, Esch betrayed a bunch of yellow dog democrats. Don't confuse them with people who personally thought he would be a good Congressman.
Anon 11:12--sorry, but the guy's quals are A+. Veteran (two tours w/the AF in Iraq and Afghanistan), economics background and teaching, AF reserve ... major involvement w/Terry's 08 race that had him as frequent spokesman and surrogate speaker. Carter has a great future w/the Republicans. BTW, let's see your resume. Go Richard!
What is the difference between a Blue dog Dem and a Yellow Dog Dem and if you combine them do you get a Hybrid Green Dog Dem?
In the Republican Party we just call the unreliables "Squishes".
I find it funny that people say Carter has a great future in the Republican party considering he used to be one before he switched sides just to make a run for Congress. Are these the kind of self serving, overly ambitious, sensitive ego Republicans that the party needs? Maybe we should ask Tony Raimondo...
IS "Elective Office" like elective surgery?
Hey kids, I'm deleting that whole exchange. Unnecessary.
So what about this Tom White guy? I heard the guy who runs NFM is throwing a fundraiser for him..... Good for me though, no need to support the NFM anymore:)
How many sides of the isle can mr White play this year in Lincoln. He may be a "smooth Talker", not unlike his buddy in the White House, but he has baggage. Heck the R's need to join those two at the hip. Then either way he is stuck. Either he supports the Lib/Socialist policies of the President and alienates those who find this unacceptable. Or he abandons the Lib/Left, panders to the center, thereby ticking of the Radical Leftists.
This is going to be fun.
Oh and the lawyers are going to have a field day with the way TW's organization depicts reality.
And, Tom White should learn to keep his chest thumping finger to himself or someone's husband is going to open up a can of whoop ass on him.
Note to self, don't ever touch someone else's chest-even if it is in anger; most husbands don't like that.
Anon 8:06
What are you talking about with the finger thing? Did Tom White finger thump some woman? Please clarify. Thanks.
On another note, Richard Carter was too conservative for the Democrats, even the ones in Nebraska. Good for him to be smart enough to see the light before the liberal trainwreck happens. This health care reform is going to take down the democrats.
Ok I bite. What's with Tom's finger?
The finger thing is someone else's story and I won't violate her trust. If she wishes to post, that would be great. Otherwise, someone can stick a microphone in Tom White's face and see what he does when cornered.
And no, it was not a reporter.
Suffice to say that someone, say Paul Johnson should get a leash on Mr. White's before he wastes any more time trying to "define" Congressman Lee Terry.
I think it's Jim Crounse that holds the leash. Nice to know the Omaha economy is fully supported by those wishing to represent it.
What say you Boomer? What say you Crounse?
Considering the reputations of elected officials, it might be better to let the wives hold the leashes.
A wife abdicating this responsibility to an outside consultant is just asking for trouble in paradise.
Seems the only logical choice for receiving a TWhite finger thump, in the chest and a husband not liking it, would lead one to deduce it was a member of the Legislature. So how many women are in the Legislature? Would he get mad at someone on his side of the isle? So kind of narrows it down to 2 I think, Cornett and Fischer. Of course that is only a guess.
Keep guessing. And you just might get it right. Of course, you are assuming that it would only be republicans in the Unicameral that he would be an ass to. I think you would be wrong with that assumption, there are many people that don't like his professional behavior either.
since you mentioned Paul Johnson and Jim Crounse, who do you think is the best political strategist? Who is Nebraska's James Carville or Karl Rove?
Paul Landow = then Councilman Welch called him Omaha's "Carville"
Matt Samp = helped elect Suttle
David Boomer = helped Terry survive in a Democratic year
Carlos Castillo = helped elect Terry, Reps statewide - Heinman over Osborne was huge
Dave Phipps = ran local party, Terry, and the Election office
Ian Russell?
Jim Cavanaugh?
When did Phipps run the local Party and how is it that he assisted Terry by mishandling the 06 election ballot counting?
Carlos is phenominal. Boomer knows when and where to go to get it done.
Samp is a poser that represents posers with no substance. He likes to play puppet master with people's lives and it is guaranteed to cost him, dearly. Oops, it already has, hasn't it.
Landow is cushy at UNO where he can get quick tenure and destroy the youth of the community until they get out and pay taxes and return to the conservative roots that they were raised in.
Did anyone notice that most of the youth that spoke at the Millard North Townhall were most interested in not having the cost of socialized medicine put on their backs after they graduate and get jobs? Where were all of the people that Susie Buffet signed up for free lunch and a free vote card? Maybe they didn't know about it because they never lived in the 2nd District! Or, maybe, Jane Kleb promised them dinner and a bus ride to see the state Capitol that night.
Paul Johnson is the best political manager for Democrats
Linda Lovergren and Carlos Castillo are the best strategists for Republicans
Go Stenny
Steinberg almost beat Ben Nelson I think he'd be a favorite for state Treasurer.
Johnson's "streak" is about to come to a halt.
In all other cases, Johnson had a likable prospect. He now has to prove why Lee Terry is unlikable, just so he can counter why everyone hates Tom White.
Good luck with that one, Paulie.
Paul Landow? How ancient is that guy? Strategist? Give me a break. Not Paulie
Paul Landow? How ancient is that guy? Strategist? Give me a break. Not Paulie
If David Boomer is Connecticut's Karl Rove how do you explain Esch getting so close twice? It should have been a walk in the park for our dear incumbent Lee.
Got close once. Cracking "within 10% by .04 is not close. the close one came with a mandate from the DNC for Obama. While you all looked at how much the DCCC and the NRCC spent on this race, did anyone look at how much Obama and the DNC each spent on the 2nd District for the first time in history? Oh, and let's not forget about all the voters that no longer live in Omaha, but have gone back to C.B.
As far as Boomer being the Rove of Conn? No clue, all I know is that Obama's numbers no longer show that he wa the savior to our Country, now do they?
And the Paulie is Johnson, not Landow, try and keep up, would ya'.
