Exploratory committees are one way to fill up a tub full of money that you can use pretty much any way you want to, so long as it "appears" to be for political purposes. Do you want to take a little trip to Florida for the weekend? All you have to do is find a friend down there to arrange to have you speak before his "group." Even if the group is made up of your friends that also like to drink beer and go deep sea fishing. Your "exploratory committee," funded by those who thought they were supporting you, and your ideas, picks up the tab - travel, hotel, meals and all.
That is why it is imperative that more average citizens get involved in the political process, and that they pay attention to what is going on. We have to end this madness wherein people run for office, not to serve their fellow citizens, but to serve themselves.
I certainly don't hate Democrats, nor do I "hate" Republicans per se. On the other hand, I don't have a lot of use for DINOs or RINOs. I think you have to take a stand for what you believe in, not just choose sides where you can receive the most personal benefit.
Both political parties are plagued by the negative influence that constantly begging for more money entails. It is because the ever rising costs of maintaining a political party, or running for office, outstrips the ability of the average party's base to keep the gears greased that the vacuum has been filled by corporations, the very wealthy, and political action groups.
If our political parties were truly grassroots organizations, dependent more on the will of the people rather than the depths of their pockets, we'd all be far better off.

The Statue of Liberty, like the American flag, is an inanimate object. It exists. How can one not "believe" in it?
A more pertinent question might be, "Do you believe in the ideals laid forth in the United States Constitution, and do you support them?"
We really need to get away from swearing allegiance to inanimate objects. Sure, displaying the flag is a symbol of what we believe in. But it is useless to wave the flag if you don't defend what it stands for.

I second that.
Happy 4th kids. Be safe, fireworks are illegal in Omaha remember (but who the hell cares)? Dont drink and drive you shenanigans amongst us!
And we're looking at you, Danielle Nantkes!
Happy Independence Day! Much to be proud of - much work to be done, but we can never forget the sacrifice of those who got us to this date.
God Bless America!
What is it with all these Pols forming "exploratory committees". Is that the pussy-cat way out if you change your mind or the voters think you suck?

BTO, with all his complaining and jabs, sounds like he hates Democrats. I can safely say that we Republicans love it.
Without fireworks...there can be no Politics.
Or is it without politics there can be no FIREWORKS?
I see great fireworks coming in the 2010 election cycle.

Do you still believe in the Statue of Liberty?
Then, work for Immigration Reform!
Happy Fourth of July!

Jim Vokal's theme song should be "Freedom" by George Michael.
