Primary Election Day diary #1

Goooood mornin'!

A little early post for you poll workers and early risers (it's 6am bloggin' time.)

A quick post to tell you about a couple of late mailers we received.

Remember our post where we showed you District 6 candidate Walt Peffer's mailer telling you that he is the "True Republican candidate for City Council" against Franklin Thompson? Had all his GOP "endorsements"?

Well get this. Peffer has another mailer out there, but this one is specifically addressed, "To Walt's Democratic Friends".

And this one cracks on "Republican Franklin Thompson", like the GOP moniker is a dirty word.

The mailer goes on to knock various votes of Thompson, and we won't bother to even give the rest.

That's some cheek for a relatively serious candidate to play both sides of the party politics that openly. Though considering his campaign consultant is the former E.D. of the County Democrats, it's not that surprising. But still...

***

And then we received a bright red mailer that Democrat Jim Farho is sending. This one cracks on Democrat Chris Jerram for his various legal clients.

Like the old saying goes, you can pick your clients and you can pick your nose, but if someone sees you, expect it to come up on someone's campaign mailer.

We'd post that flyer, but frankly we haven't verified the claims that Farho is making, and we don't really want to get into Rex Moats territory here, if you know what we're saying.

The funny thing about the piece is that Farho doesn't go on to say, "Vote for Farho because he'll do X,Y, and Z and make the world a better place, etc." It just cracks on Jerram. Which would be fine if there were only one other candidate. But when there are five? Hmm...

***

As the day goes on we'll continue to post. If you see anything good, take a camera phone shot and send it in to us.

If you hear anything, or have any good poll or candidate stories, send those in.

And give us your thoughts.

Oh, and vote.

Rumor has it Liz Vokal will give Jim's concession speech.

And it is pre-recorded like the robo calls.

Rumor has it Hal Daub's concession speech is well-rehearsed. He's given it 5 times in 5 different races.

Oh please. Hal is going to win this by a landslide. Keep dreaming yourself all the way to the unemployment line tomorrow!

Predictions:
1) Hal Daub does not get 50%, but wins the primary.
2) Hal Daub does not get 50% and loses the general.

Just voted at 10:15 a.m. I was told only 20 people have voted so far. Daub & Suttle, the only choices!

Street Sweeper said...

Are the 2 choices a prediction, or an actual incorrect ballot?

Man, I can't wait to NOT hear from the Vokal people anymore!

What Hal's situation is in the general depends on his opponent.

If it is Vokal, Hal will lose handily.

If it is Suttle, it will be a very close race. Hal may still lose, but it could head into recount.

It looks like Chris Jerram has hired day laborers to wave signs for him today.

Interesting. I hope he check their citizenship status.

It appears this blog site is getting infected with partyline Democrats. I hear Obama is giving away Wii Systems on the Home Shopping Network...

Hal's victory party is going to be SO fun tonight! Come join us if you want to be around winners!

I heard if Vokal loses he will consider running for Douglas County Treasurer against John Ewing down the road. You heard it here first.

Well then, looks like Jim Vokal "will consider running for Douglas County Treasurer against John Ewing down the road" -- because Jim Vokal most definitely is going to lose this mayor's race! If he doesn't lose today, he WILL lose on May 12th.

possible surprises-

Crystal Rhoades in District 3

Walt Pleffer against Franklin Thompson

In the primary aftermath, if Vokal advances, look for a Fahey endorsement.

The Farho mailing opens all kinds of doors but mostly puts Buescher in the best postion.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't Hal like that! The kiss of death from Fahey to Vokal.

I think Peffer's pieces are great. There are also some good Elkhorn mailers out that are really good.

You have to talk to both sides in this race, but I think the Dem piece is a bit much.

Look for Buescher to get the same "Farho" treatment if he makes it through the primary. He's just as vulnerable as a partner at Kutak.

Street Sweeper said...

Right. Having your own small shop and being a partner in the biggest firm in town is practically the same thing...

(sheesh)

KRock: didn't they help develop and do the legal work on those credit default swaps?

Anonymous said...

Yeah. It is one thing to be THE GUY representing a store wanting to distribute porn, and being a partner at a huge firm.

Go ahead and try to run that one up the flag pole! That'll be turned his opponent in a big time hurry!

Someone said that the research for the hit on Jerram was provided by someone in Gwen Howard's office.

Then you have Rhoades all upset she was left off the Dem vote by mail card.

Sounds like a little Dem in-fighting.

i got that mailer about Jerram, and decided to vote for him because of it...

Anon 2:15's post sounds the same as a post made a few weeks ago. That post was a foreshadowing of the hit on Jerram. Now, foreshadowing a hit on Buescher too?

2 + 2 = Anon 2:25 working for Gwen Howard

Stacy

Why? It's all true.

Fahro is a looser, really why wouldn't you attack the republican candidates, because of this piece i have switched my vote from fahro to jerram. Go Chris Jerram!
