Since when is spreading wealth bad? Didn't this old man say greed was bad a week ago? Which is it? Flip..flop

I'll tell ya who won, John McCain. Substance over style.

Anonymous said...

I wish McCain would answer the question instead of attacking. He isnt answering any of them, just focusing on lieing (?) and being dirty. This is backfiring badly for him, the condescending tone doesn't play well in debates, keep it with the commercials.

Joe the Plumber, because he'll be a star for the next 24 - 48 hours.

But then Joe will be the big loser if Obama wins b/c he promised that Joe's wealth will be redistributed...

I'll tell you who won.....Satuday Night Live just got a whole bunch of material for a skit involving Joe the Plumber. Oh, and Obama, because McCain just sounded like a nutty old man, while Obama looked and sounded calm and Presidential

Anonymous said...

Obama has the "Rope-a-Dope" down pat. Took the blow from Mccain and punched right back.

I don't think that McCain did enough to change the tide.

How was the Terry-Esch debate??

Anonymous said...

Cool, calm, collected Obama wins.
McCain could barely get his thoughts out of his mouth. I could practically see the steam coming from his ears. Who wants a leader that can't remain calm in a simple debate against a fellow American? How will McCain react when another foreign leader says things he doesn't like? How will he react when his feelings are hurt then? Obama has been and will be the clear winner in the end.

Anonymous said...

I agree. The famed McCain temper, anger, etc came right through.

Anonymous said...

Ladies and Gentlemen... do you really want a president who sneers and giggles when he disagrees with his opponent, someone he's worked with "across the aisle" meeting foreign dignitaries? I think not! In fact, I think the giggles and sneers and lack of ability to directly answer a question indicate early onset. At 72, we should be seriously questioning not physical health, but mental!

Regardless of experience, or policy, *I* want a president who is willing to LISTEN and dialogue POLITELY rather than cut off the other guy. Obama is a far better statesman than McCain!

Was that Lilibet Hagel with Michelle Obama at the Debate? I havn'e seen her in years.

This whole "joe the plumber" thing is a joke. First - go to youtube, listen to the Neil Cavuto interview with the guy (from a few days ago.) Joe says he is "about to buy a company that makes 250, 270, 280 thousand a year."

Joe the plumber does not earn more than 250,000 a year, and will not if and when he buys that company because the Obama tax plan does not propose to raise taxes on the gross income of small businesses that gross more than 250,000. McCain is smart enough to know this, but he can trick many right wingers, so he just lies and throws it out there, hoping it will stick.

Further, even if, for the sake of argument, this Joe six pack fella was personally grossing 280,000, his taxes would go up just a wee bit under Obama's plan. Again, McCain knows this, as should anyone who pays taxes, but he just lies and hopes it sticks. Here are the current tax rates
10% on income between $0 and $8,025

15% on the income between $8,025 and $32,550; plus $802.50

25% on the income between $32,550 and $78,850; plus $4,481.25

28% on the income between $78,850 and $164,550; plus $16,056.25

33% on the income between $164,550 and $357,700; plus $40,052.25

So...if Obama raises taxes on amounts over 250,000 by 10%, Joe would pay $3000 more a year...if he was single and grossed 280,000. But Joe lives in a house that costs in between 90 and 140 thousand dollars. He's considering buying a business that grosses 250-280 thousand. His taxes, under Obama, would be certain to GO DOWN UNDER OBAMA! But like many of you right wingers, Joe six pack is easily fooled by the scare tactics of those who act like they are just like Joe six pack, but really are nothing like them. What would you expect from a guy with 11 houses? You right wingers are greedy and sick, and you have no idea what real patriotism means. And on top of all that, you act all holy and rightous. You should be ashamed.

Obama was the clear winner. He had specific plans he laid out clearly to the voters. I've been one of those "undecided" voters as of late, but McCain did nothing last night to win me over.

McCain's done.

So, Lee Terry is now calling people jackass's during his debate with Jim Esch???

He is losing it -- and I hope he loses on Election Day. Who needs a Member of Congress who calls people names like that? Not to mention his fondness for the word, "Bull!", and referring to his "crystal ball" when discussing what might happen to the future of this country. What a loser.

I'll tell ya who won...
The socialist liberal jr. senator from Illinios won whether or not he actually did since four out of the five broadcast networks are spinning it that way. There's a huge basic flaw in Obama's tax plan that liberal socialists like to ignore. Taking more and more from productive citizens to give to the unproductive does nothing but motivate the productive to be less so. All you have to do is look at the socialist paradises in Europe to see Obama's policies in action. McCain's big mistake of the evening was not using "wealth redistribution" to describe Obama's socialist proposals instead of "spreading the wealth".

Anonymous said...

Even George Will said that Barack Obama won the debate last night.

Im sure you wouldn't call George a liberal, now would you.

McCain, but it doesn't matter. He should have done this in the first debate.

BTW, Omasteak, don't think for a second that socialists don't see that "flaw." You see it as a flaw because you are blinded by your patriarchal, pallorist, capitalist, imperialist, running dog upbringing. Remember, misery loves company. Spread the wealth!

in the Esch/Terry debate. Esch, hands down. Terry even said during the debate "We need new leadership in Congress". Can't wait to see Esch put that in an ad. In their two minute closing arguments, Esch kept it positive and articulate. Terry had a two minute Jim Esch-bashing session because he doesn't have enough accomplishments from the past 10 YEARS to even fill two minutes. He looked and sounded desperate and ridiculous. Can't wait to re-watch that one tonight.

I'll tell ya who won... the American people.

They won't have to have that nasty old grouch, McCain, picking fights with everyone around the globe - fights that your children would have to fight, not him nor those of his filthy rich friends. McCain is still looking to "get even" with someone (anyone) for the pain and suffering he endured in the Hanoi Hilton. I won't take away from him his heroic resistance to his captors, but I can't deny that such treatment often has deleterious effects on the mind.

While we're at it, how does everyone feel about Bush redistributing our nation's wealth? Does anyone in their right minds think that $700,000,000,000 would have been made available to the middle class to relieve their suffering? No, but as soon as the billionaire pals of GWB and his cronies started pouting their hero came to their rescue. Now they are SOCIALIZING our banks.

How 'bout them apples?

What's with this constant mantra against Obama because he served on some board with a repentant '60s protester? Ayers was never convicted of anything related to the Weathermen.

Can the same be said for McCain's pals - Charles Keating and G. Gordon Liddy? Now THERE are a couple of guys you Republicans seem to be quite proud of.

Keating helped to eradicate the life savings of countless elderly retirees. Do you suppose they felt like they were victims of a terrorist attack? Keating was sentenced to ten and twelve years for his crimes.

G. Gordon was the mastermind of the Watergate burglary and its coverup. He is also infamous as the proponent of assasinating federal agents. What a keeper that guy is! Oh, and he was sentenced to 20 years for his crimes.

Cal: Hell, the last 8 years big government has won.

But don't worry, President Obama will let us all get into the fray as he brings the fight home to America.

Did you miss the part about Pelosi and Reid being 100% behind the bailout? They're Dems, last I checked. Also, did you miss the part about Ayers getting off on a technicality? And his confessions?

Just wondering. Thought maybe you'd been living in a cave the last few months.

To my favorite blog Leavenstreet Worth: How come you don't talk about Scott Kleeb anymore?

Brian T. Osborn said...

MacPappy, just trying to figure out what your chickenhawk reference was all about.

Who that hasn't been alive and paying attention in the past year or more doesn't know all about John McCain having been a POW? Hell, he's used that as an excuse for all his bad behavior and as an excuse for why we are all supposed to bow down and worship at his altar. I know there are a lot of others, some I have known personally, that suffered as much or worse at the hands of their captors in war and they mostly prefer not to talk about it.

My intention was not to diminish the respect for McCain's past heroics - he earned that. But having done something good at one point in his life doesn't require me to worship the ground he walks on. There are plenty of things he did afterwards that were downright despicable. His participation in the Keating Five is one, his inability to keep his manhood in his pants is another (that's one you Republicans should understand, after you pilloried Bill Clinton over his sexual peccadilioes, at great expense to our nation.)

It seems the worst you can come up with about Obama is offering your imaginary future scenarios. At least offer tangible evidence, not just your personal, unsubstantiated fears.

As for living in a cave for the last few months, by my observations I'd have to say you've been in one most of your adult life. Your denials of actual fact lead me to believe you either don't know the truth, or you can't handle it.

I'll agree with you on the shared culpability concerning the fat cat bailouts. How about answering my comments on Keating and Liddy?

Why is Lee is arguing against sending himself back?

No wonder the Ag Secretary appointed by Bush had "Travelgate Issues" within his own ag department. And here I thought he could walk on water.

Johanns is a career politician who always looks after himself first. He could give two hoots in hell about Nebraskans. On the flipside, if he makes it to DC, we'll never his name again. I'm pretty sure you were dissing John McCain and the things he suffered for this country. But FYI, we have a civilian government. Our civilian leaders pick the wars and the military fights them. The civilian leaders do not fight them, hence the designation "civilian." Obama will never fight in a single war he may involve the US in. I look forward to your criticism of him the first time he orders troops into battle.

In both debates you have clear cut cases of Fluff vs. Grit. The fluffers were all about what could be, should be, that is if you take out reality.

Sorry but in the real world, Nancy Pelosi will make Esch scream like a child. He proposed he was good enough by virture of not being Lee. Well that doesn't show anything about what he can do. To date there is NO substance to Esch.

As far as BHO, once again we see fluff, smoke and mirrors. It is so easy to claim you will do this or that, but once there you learn there is no way to DO it. The whole of government is a tedius process.

What I find amusing is how many of those supporting the fluff boys have not a clue of what it will be like in an America where the State makes the decisions on everything. I have been to the countries where the Social Experiments have been tried, and failed. You won't find many citizens in any of these countries that don't want to move here. And before you start wondering if I am qualified, who knows. But I have been there. I have been to the varrious engagements around the globe and have the t-shirts.

Bottom line is we have it great here. BHO will only move us closer to what has never succeeded any where at any time in history. So feel fee to complain, somebody already paid the price to ensure you could. But think for a moment how dissent is treated in China, Russia, Central/South America, the Mid East....... the list goes on.

So take your shots, the price has been paid.

"Give me your paycheck then ask 'when is it bad to spread the wealth'" - what a dumb statement. My taxes, and most likely yours too (unless you earn 250,000 as a single person) will go down, so pipe down buddy. My paycheck ain't going nowhere. And if I were fortunate enough to make 250,000 a year (and let's be honest, most folks I've known making that much golf or play bridge more than they actually work), I'd gladly pay more in taxes. It's the patriotic thing to do. It's the Christian thing to do. You see...it's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. I hate to think that there are kids in this country going hungry because of greedy people who need to buy a $100,000 car or 11 houses and then try and say they shouldn't have to pay more in taxes. There is much suffering that could be saved by having the ultrarich pay higher taxes...like reducing autism that McCain thinks affects the Palin family (even though Palin's granddaughter has down syndrome, not autism). By taxing the ultra-rich, we could help old people afford health care. We could reduce the deficit, which is the biggest reason our economy is in such bad shape. I'm sorry buddy, greed is something that is tough to defend, try as you right wingers do

Anon 12:27 Are you sure your paycheck isn't going anywhere? If you have a job that is dependent on disposable income, don't be so sure. When Obama takes those extra thousands of dollars from rich people, they'll have to cut back their spending somewhere. So I'd be worried if you are in the housing, automotive, tourism, retail, or financial services sectors. But I'm sure Obama, From Whom All Good Things Flow, will cut you a welfare check.

Anonymous said...

Tax Loving Anonymous,
I know lots of people who make $250k/year and lots more than that...and none of time spend the bulk of their time playing golf or bridge...they work at least 60-80 hours a week at their businesses and more during their "days off". I too think it's a shame that there are children hungry and homeless in this country but it isn't the business of government to provide charity by taking money from the productive under threat of force and giving that money to the nonproductive. The further government moves away from that principle, the less freedom and opportunity there is for all...and the less money there is to fund private charities which almost always do a much better and more efficient job of dealing with problems of poverty, etc. I too find conspicuous consumption troubling but instead of thinking the "government" should "do something about it", I see it as the shining example of why we need to move away from income/capital gains/property taxes and on to a system based upon taxing consumption and rewarding production/savings/investments (see www.fairtax.org for details). This would also have the benefit of taking the tax system away from the politicians, which is their main source of power, and returning that to the people where it rightly belongs. When the Messiah Obama raises my income and captial gains taxes, I'll still be working hard to maximize my income but it's likely my efforts will also include additional measures to shield portions from higher taxes and there may be a significant negative impact upon "post-tax spendable profits" which I donate to charities.

Brian T. Osborn said...

MacPappy,
Do you honestly believe that Barrack Obama had any association with the terroristic activities of William Ayers? He served on a freaking board with him, along with several other prominent people - including Republicans. McCain was actively involved with Charles Keating's illegal activities and was reprimanded for his lack of judgement. Obama was EIGHT FREAKING YEARS OLD when Ayers was committing his crimes; John McCain was IN HIS FIFTIES when he was schmoozing with Keating. You just don't get it do you?

This from Wikipedia:
----------
(On John McCain and Charles Keating)
McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981,[11] and McCain was the only one of the five with close social and personal ties to Keating.[42][43] Like DeConcini, McCain considered Keating a constituent as he lived in Arizona.[35] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.[44] In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[7][45] In 1989 Phoenix New Times writer Tom Fitzpatrick opined that McCain was the "most reprehensible" of the five senators.
----------
(On G. Gordon LIddy)
Watergate burglaries
For his role in Watergate, which he coordinated with Hunt, Liddy was convicted of conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping, and received a 20-year sentence. He served a total of five and half years in prison, including over 100 days in solitary confinement, before his sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter and he was released on September 7, 1977.
Advice to listeners
Liddy is noted for controversial advice to his radio audience, including on one occasion in 1994, after the federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, Liddy advised his listeners: "Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of bitches."
Liddy's connections to John McCain
In 1998 Liddy hosted a fundraiser at his house for John McCain's re-election campaign at which guests could have their pictures taken with McCain and Liddy.[6] Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns -- including $1,000 in 2008.
Last November, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as "an old friend," and McCain said "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family." "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."
------
This from the Los Angeles Times
(On Ayers and Obama)
Ayers surrendered in 1980. Charges against him later were dropped because of governmental misconduct. Today he is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and lives in Obama's neighborhood.

In 1995, Ayers held a meet-the-candidate session as Obama prepared to run for the state Senate. They also served on the boards of two charitable groups. Chicago named Ayers its Citizen of the Year in 1997 for work on one of those boards.
------
Now you can fool yourself into believing that Obama's incidental proximity to Ayers comes even close to the ties that bind McCain to Keating and Liddy, you can even fool yourself into believing that Keating and Liddy really did nothing wrong. But you are not going to fool me or anyone else that has an IQ over 80.

Now, lets hear your denunciation of McCain's relationship with those CONVICTED FELONS and statement that you refuse to vote for him.

I will vote for Barrack Obama and I will be celebrating his victory in November.

Using the criteria that you guys want to apply, then I would suppose there is someone in each of your pasts that we could use to tie you to terrorism, pedophiles, rapists and murderers. Serving on a board with someone (boards that, I will reiterate, included many other prominent people, including REPUBLICANS) does not automatically make you a "fellow traveler." OmahahaSteak,
You are a legend in your own mind. Did you actually read that one, or is the one you use to enable you to see over the steering wheel of your SUV?

I am sick and tired of hearing Obama defend his friendship with Ayers by saying, "I was 8 years old when..."

If a 60 year old man and his wife moved into Obama's neighborhood, but 40 years ago he sexually molested an 8 and 9 year old, would Obama forgive that because it was something that happened when he was, "8 years old..."?

I doubt he would be so forgiving of something alleged or actual, if it involved a crime that would hit so close to home instead of crimes that he accepts by his refusal to denounce them.

Shame on Obama and, BTW, shame on UNL for extending an invitation paid for by my tax dollars to such a terroristic pig.

Anon 3:17,
Obama has repeatedly said that the acts that were commited by Ayers despicable. He is not friends with him, he was asked to serve on a board that Ayers himself was asked to serve on later. Come back for a free education anytime...

Man! That's what I love about the Neo-Con Religious Right. They hate us Liberals because some of us aren't Bible thumping bigots like them. I guess by reading between the lines they avoid the message of Jesus . . . peace, love, and forgiveness.

Anymouse, you'd better get used to it. You're going to be living in a country ruled by Democrats for the next several years, a nation bankrupted by the policies of your heroes - Bush, Cheney, Gingrich and DeLay.

Perhaps you could find refuge in Paraguay. GWB might let you come down and stay on his spread there. He's already planning ahead, in fact he's already built one of the longest runways in the world on his land down there so that the C-17s full of gold plundered from Fort Knox can land there.
